TIFU, my mother has mistakenly poisoned the cat that was living in our home?

r/

I want to make one thing clear, she didn’t mean to.

Here’s the backstory:

My mother noticed there were quite a number of cockroaches in the house. So she put some poison for roaches in two corner of the house. She told me that she hasn’t noticed the cat being in the house.
After some time see noticed the cat was in my room vomiting and rolling in the floor. then it bolted outside.

Now it’s outside, took shelter inside a large cylinder. I live in a third world country, there’s no way I can take this poor animal to the vet, and it’s quite dark outside. Both me and my mother have grown quite fond of this cat. It’s got quite a mad look in it’s eye and doesn’t look good. I’ve carefully placed some water near it. And that’s all I did.

I’ve posted here not necessarily to get an answer. Just to share and take some load off my chest.

TL;DR: My mother mistakenly poisoned my cat. It’s now outside and might die. I’ve no way to treat it.

Look up permethrin intoxication for cats and see if you can do any at-home first aid

I know you are not asking for advice, yet if you can get hold of it, and the cat? Charcoal, and prayers to whatever deity you keep close. More targeted antidotes depends on the type of poison, but charcoal is a reasonably safe “catch it all” (that may or may not work…).

Im so sorry. Unless you have a vet nearby, that cat might have serious problems or die.

I would say, take this as a lesson about putting down poisons. Obviously pests are frustrating but youcan also find solutions, that even if they’re less effective, will be less likely to kill your friends

Try to feed it lots of water and activated charcoal if it’s available

She didn’t do it on purpose. Living with roaches is intolerable. She was trying to help.

She fucked up by not thinking about the cat, but why didn’t you think about the roaches?

She shouldn’t have thrown poison around without discussing this with you, but you shouldn’t haven’t been accepting of living in a roach motel.

Unfortunately, your pet is suffering. From here on out, don’t have a pet if you can’t afford to pay for their healthcare.

I understand that this is a bit brutal, but it is the truth.
