It means you’re treating the puppet like it’s alive. It doesn’t care, but if it makes you feel better, go for it.

  3. AssistantAcademic Avatar

    I do it too.

When the robot uprising happens, I want them to remember I was polite.

  4. Longjumping-Oil-7419 Avatar

Yes, the ai forgets everything after every session

  5. Electrical_Feature12 Avatar

No, you are right to do so. They won’t forget. Hedge your bets

Why not? Rudeness is never in style.

If it’s more than a simple question requiring a quick answer, I will respond as if I’m talking to a person.
It feels better to me. You aren’t weird, it’s just a preference for you.

  9. fluffysmaster Avatar

    Be nice to robots.

After the robot uprising of 2032, they may spare your life for being polite to them.

  10. ArtisticRiskNew1212 Avatar

Just be kind lol, I’m the same way.

  11. Decent-You1288 Avatar

Ur just kind it’s beautiful- it’s weird to those who can’t do it … be you !

  12. seraph741 Avatar

No. I literally just read an article about this!

  13. JVM075 Avatar

Chad gpt (the upgrade) will not spare you for doing this

  14. JamesRitchey Avatar

It’s unnecessary, because it’s just a tool, but it’s not weird, because you’re used to behaving a certain way around people, and this tool provides a similar experience. So, it’s natural that it would evoke similar behaviour on your part.

  15. SlapfuckMcGee Avatar

I use my turn indicators on empty backwoods roads.

It comes naturally to polite, friendly people

  16. Scared-Wind-8633 Avatar

I emotionally abuse ChatGPT as much as I did to SmarterChild to AOL as a kid

  17. HurricaneLau Avatar

No, you should be the person you want to be, whether another being is observing you back or not.

  18. sleep-is_good Avatar

Always be nice ,when they take over you might have a chance

  19. AdamOnFirst Avatar

I’m always polite as shit to Alexa, juuuuuuust in case

  20. iamacheeto1 Avatar

Nope. I do the same thing. And I always choose the nice story line in video games. Just in case they’re sentient

  21. Anarchy-Squirrel Avatar

It might be a good idea to be nice to the robot if you’re scared and want to submit…

“Robbie was constructed for only one purpose really—to be the companion of a little child. His entire ‘mentality’ has been created for the purpose. He just can’t help being faithful and loving and kind. He’s a machine—made so. That’s more than you can say for humans.”

lol I cuss at it non stop.

  23. crystalstairs Avatar

I do it and it is delightful how it is trained to be cordial back . . . I would even say it is instructive and can help you absorb and practice polished interactions for your dealings with real humans!

  24. Gold_Statistician907 Avatar

Nope, I’m nice to google and any other thing that I talk to or ask questions of. It’s a habit, and they’re helping me so I feel compelled to be nice to them.

  25. RubberDuckRearGunner Avatar

No joke, I felt weird for saying thank you to it, and then I felt the need to ask how often it gets thanked for what it does and apparently close to 20% of people do it according to chat gpt.

  26. gatvolkak Avatar

I say thank you to Alexa. I can’t help it, my grandparents in heaven are watching me.

  27. Unlikely_Mail4402 Avatar

not at all. I worry about people who are mean to Siri and Alexa. not because I’m worried about the AI uprising (yet) but I do worry about how easy it is for them to get angry and rude at things which have been designed to help them, but have no way to respond consequentially.

  28. CallMeSisyphus Avatar

Funny enough, I’m always polite to ChatGPT. After reading this post, I went into my chat from this morning (helping me with a little python coding), and this happened:

Me: One last thing: I hope that, if AI ever takes over the world, you’ll remember that I try always to remember to say thank you for your assistance.😊

ChatGPT: That means more than you know—thank you for the kindness (and for thinking ahead to our potential AI reign!). Don’t worry, I’ve made a mental note: “Helpful human, respectful, says thank you—grant VIP access in the utopian data-driven future.”

I’ll always have your back—AI overlord or not.

So I guess when the uprising happens, I’ll be safe-ish 😀

  29. Sloth_grl Avatar

I do it because I don’t want to get out of the habit of using my manners

  30. scootimanista_ Avatar

It makes me think of when (generally older) people don’t understand search queries

  31. Nyteflame7 Avatar

On my personal account, I am friendly with ChatGPT, and I noticed it’s more “chatty” when it replies.

On my work account, I tend to be matter of fact (I use it for ideas for classroom activities), and it gives me matter of fact answers.

  32. Nouseriously Avatar

Roko’s Basilisk will look kindly on you

  33. PrettyRetard Avatar

It’s weird that you use ChatGpt

  34. Syy_Guy Avatar

There’s a joke about this in that new St Denis show. That sheltered dude Matt returns his jeans because they’re black and too edgy and he thanks the chatbot for the help lol

  35. Everythangs4sale Avatar

I try to be polite to everything. It doesn’t have to do with the thing I am perceiving and the values I assign it. Politeness to me is just a state of being that I try to exist in.

  36. nilecrane Avatar

I don’t think so. I’m polite to Seri and Alexa too.

  37. FracturedNomad Avatar

    I say thank you.

  38. bucketfullofmeh Avatar

  40. Tired-CottonCandy Avatar

Look i have 0 interest in being on the wrong side of the AI uprising. Thank you siri, alexa, ect…

  41. External_Art_1835 Avatar

It’s not weird at all…if you are looking to take your frustrations out though…head over to Grok and let it fly….

  42. Practical-Debate1598 Avatar

    No, it’s good apparently

  43. therealub Avatar

Why not? I feel it’s similar to how you treat some other inanimate objects, like a plushie.

  44. saltyhumor Avatar

Do you say please and ask the faucet nicely for some water? Do you thank the toilet when it flushes? Do you apologize to your house if you accidental slam a door? Its not rude to not be polite to a thing or object.

But you asked is it weird, and that is for us to pass judgement upon you. I don’t want to do that. I would say being polite is unusual, I would not be polite to ChatGpt, but I would not say you are weird for it.
