So they live on a house boat, but her mother never lets her swim because the water’s dirty. Her father is either dead or I can’t quite remember, but for the beginning, he’s out of the picture. Anyway, at school she takes swimming lessons for the first time. When she touches the water, she turns into a mermaid. Then fast forwards because I don’t remember the parts in between but she goes on an adventure in the ocean where she meets the god Neptune I believe, and finds out that her father might have also been a mermaid? Anyway, I think her father was possibly imprisoned underwater and wasn’t dead the whole time.
It was actually a series with about 5 or so books, each one was a different colour.
