I don’t know why this popped in my head, but I remember I film I watched when I was young that felt like it was from the 80s?
The plot is about a kid who considers himself a major loser – nothing goes right for him, accidents befall him, everything he does is awkward, and he feels like a Goofus in a world full of Gallants.
Anyways, he enlists the help of an old man who promises to cure him of his loser-ness. This quality is given a specific word for the movie, I think, and I think the old man coins it, explaining it’s a phenomena that can be erased with his techniques. Anyways, the boy is given lessons (I think) that build up his confidence and make him feel normal.
Of course, inevitably he screws something up, I think by accidentally spilling some groceries, and upset, runs to the old man for answers. But the old man is no longer there, and has left a letter explaining that there is no such thing as this specific loser-ness quality, and that everyone feels like a loser at some point.
And then, I swear, we see that the old man is no longer around because he successfully built a chair attached to a balloon and he’s flying away.
I thought Christopher Lloyd was the old man, but he’s not old enough for when this looked like it was made and I can’t find it on his IMDB. Any ideas?
