I have a fuzzy memory of watching an episode of an animated children’s show on cable TV at my grandmother’s house that creeped me out as a kid. Unfortunately what I can’t remember is what show it was, or what channel it was on (I would guess that it’s either Disney Jr., Nick Jr., or PBS Kids as it was aimed at younger children). This was somewhere around 2006-2008.
The premise I remember was a group of friends visiting the main character’s house. They decided to walk downstairs into the basement, but were frightened by two glowing dots starting at them in the darkness. I believe there was scary music, and they ran back upstairs.
Later in the episode, a parental figure (I remember it being the child’s dad) went down to the basement with them and turned the lights on. It was revealed that the “eyes” turned out to be two shining lights, demonstrating how the imagination can be scarier than reality.
It’s difficult to find since I can’t remember very many details, I wonder if this rings a bell for anyone. I’d be curious to watch it again, I bet it wasn’t nearly as scary as I remembered but that sort of imagery was intense as a kid.

This was also in the Northeast US, I doubt it was a regional show but you never know.
