Hi everyone, I’m trying to remember the name of an animated movie I watched as a kid in the early 2000s. I’m pretty sure it was a Miramax-distributed film, but I’m not entirely certain. Here’s what I remember about it:
Tone: The movie had a dark and eerie vibe, definitely not a light-hearted children’s film. It had some surreal and mystical elements that felt a bit unsettling.
Plot: It seemed like an adventure movie, with an older woman (who might’ve been a witch or mystical character) as one of the key figures. There was a giant robot that the characters had to defeat, and they did so in some way (not sure exactly how). The robot might’ve been mechanical, and it had a big presence in the film.
Other characters: I remember there was a cat, but it wasn’t the main character. The cat may have been involved in some way, but wasn’t a central figure.
Animation style: The style was older, hand-drawn, and 2D animation, not like the polished CGI we see today. The whole movie had a kind of classic, fantasy animation feel.
Bonus detail: The movie was included as a second feature or bonus short on a DVD disc that had a different main movie (possibly something like 80 Days Around the World or another adventure-style film).
Does anyone know what this movie is? I’d love to track it down, but I’m struggling to remember the title!
Sorry if this does not make much sense, I tried to list every single thing I remembered. I hope you can help me with this, I’ve been trying to find this for years and I couldn’t get anything useful.

The Thief and the Cobbler?
American or Japanese animation?
Okay, I kinda doubt it, but: „An American Tail“? Darker style, cat as a secondary character, giant mouse of Minsk as robot?
Alternative: „The Secret of NIMH“? Definitely dark and eerie, cat plays a smaller adversarial role and while there are no robots, a machine (a tractor) plays a big part.
(2009) Nine?
