Trump Cognitive Decline

r/

Do you think that if Trump shows cognitive decline much like Biden did as his term dragged on, that MAGA would still back him for a third term?

Like obviously I think Trump is more spaced out than Biden ever was. But I am talking about Trump starting to say actually insane things that MAGA would REALLY have to compensate to defend (though they probably still will).

Imagine he says “Floridaaaaaaa great state great state, I heard they are number one in the country in education anddddddddd smart people very smart people” or “California I love youuuuu, The first state” Like I am talking things that are just factually incorrect more so than usual.

Do you think MAGA will actually disown him while he is in cognitive dissonance running for a third term?

They will refuse to believe any signs of Trump’s decaying mental state

Yes, thats getting old for ya

The Florida/Cali example is pretty poor, an no doubt we would see a large swath of maga supporters deny the reality of his decline as we saw with Biden

  5. JackColon17 Avatar

It doesn’t matter, people don’t care what trump says

  6. SacredGay Avatar

There’s already ample evidence of mental decay, setting aside his terrible decisions. Nobody’s doing anything about it.

  7. Odd-Principle8147 Avatar

I think we need to stop this. I don’t like trump and think his ideas are shit. But his cognitive ability is as good as it ever was.

Also, Biden would have been fine as president for another 4 years.

  8. TrappedInOhio Avatar

Of course they would. What gives you any indication that they wouldn’t?

This is a past tense question. He fell asleep in the middle of his criminal trial and his supporters started wearing diapers when a hoax came out that Trump had to wear them.

  10. Vegetable-Two-4644 Avatar

He’s shown signs of it for years. The problem is Republicans en masse have a greater distrust of news and trump is known for rambling nonsense already. It would have to be very significant for it to be even admitted.

He will have larger issues to consider than his cognitive state if he dares run for a third term.

If the blowing up the economy doesn’t shake them loose they’ll be wheeling him around until his last breath. Weekend at Bernie’s style.

Exactly as was true with the Democratic party and Biden:

The Republican leaders and influences in the media will cover up and deny Donald Trump’s declin and the party members and supporters will actively hold a disbelief in the truth. It won’t be until a very public spectacle occurs that the truth will no longer denied. At that point Trump’s supporters will accept the declin and start painting Donald Trump as a kindly old grandfather who needs to be cuddled but not dismissed.

When it comes to human nature and behavior, base Republicans and Democrats are cut from the same cloth. They just differ in their ideals. You can decide who’s ideals are better than the other.

You mean like saying that USA trading counterparty countries having levied double-digit % tariffs, this much factually incorrect?

Trump is the definition of cognitive decline. These boot lickers will never admit they were duped. They are in a cult

  16. Mysterious-End-3630 Avatar

His MAGA supporters will continue to support him to their dying day no matter what he does or how he behaves.

  17. Old_Palpitation_6535 Avatar

He made statements like that in the last campaign. They’ll keep backing him until long after he’s dead.

  18. Temmie4u Avatar

How would he run for a third term?

  19. frankgrimes1 Avatar

hes not getting a third term.

  20. DangerousDem Avatar

The question disregards the obvious cognitive decline of those who voted for him.

  21. icantbelieveit1637 Avatar

MAGA will back him as long as he is alive he is the zenith of the MAGA movement there is no movement without him. We just have to hope that MAGA becomes so disillusioned with the political system that it collapses when Trump is no longer telling them what to think ie when he dies in the near (10ish years) future.

  22. ADeweyan Avatar

He’s already showing significant cognitive decline. Compare him speaking now with video from the 2016 campaign.

The primary reason Biden stayed at the top and was allowed to run for a second term wasn’t ordinary Dem voters, it was his inner circle indulging him. That’s what it’ll come down to with Trump as well, whether or not the people in his orbit can tolerate it.

Biden’s team thought they could get away with running a rotting corpse because his opponent was a senile buffoon and they didn’t want to rock the boat more than necessary. He also had no clear successor, Kamala was literally VP but pre-dropout he had made no clear signals that he wanted her to be president some day.

Trump is different, and so are Republicans. Whoever he faces in 2028, I can guarantee they will not be similarly senile. And more importantly, Republicans really don’t mind rocking the boat – if anything they get off on it, so long as there’s a major personal interest to advance.

He also has a clear successor – whether anyone likes it or not, it’s JD Vance. But there are also dozens more aspiring successors who would happily throw T under the bus if it meant they got a shot. Shit, look at the 2024 primary!

I think there’s a real possibility that by the time 2028 rolls around, Trump himself just isn’t worth the risk (or effort) of a third-term power grab and all the big players mobilize behind Vance.

One last thing – Trump doesn’t even like being President! He loves the power and influence, but he resents the gig. Biden loved being President, way too much, and that alone made it harder to drop him.

  24. Fugicara Avatar

Trump has been showing worse cognitive decline than Biden for longer than Biden and it didn’t matter in 2024. Ignoring that he can’t technically run for a third Presidential term, MAGA doesn’t care about his cognitive state.

  25. Duneking1 Avatar

Yes, democrats did it when Biden was going through it. Not all of them. But there’s no reason to think the right will be any different.

  26. ManBearScientist Avatar

Biden is massively ahead of Trump cognitively, and I’ll die on that hill.

A much younger Trump gave the “nuclear” speech. The Trump of today is simply not functioning. He doesn’t remember what acts he signed, and cannot give English responses to simple questions.

I’d bet that he can’t even type most his own rants on social media, and just has people typing in “his style”, which was mildly incoherent on its own.

But the sad thing is, it probably won’t ever be a factor. His idiocy is his appeal. He says something vaguely like what the average idiot wants to hear, and they make up the rest.

  27. willowdove01 Avatar

Let’s be real, if “they’re eating the dogs” didn’t do it, nothing fucking will

  28. gordonf23 Avatar

There is literally nothing he can say or do that will cause them to stop supporting him.

  29. wonkalicious808 Avatar

You’ve had all this time to understand Republicans. I don’t know why you think that the reason Republicans can see themselves in him is the reason they’d turn their back on him.

Don’t let my insult to Republicans distract away from the fact that I’m saying that you should’ve known better than to ask such a blatantly nonsensical question.

  30. Pizzasaurus-Rex Avatar

How would anyone know? He’s been talking gibberish for his entire political career.

  31. Kellosian Avatar

Trump’s rotting, bloated corpse will still probably win 30% of the electorate.

Actually, there’s a plan for 2028! If Trump dies before then, we should all spread the rumor that he’s alive Elvis-style and will re-emerge from his hiding like the King Under the Mountain if and only if we wins the biggest write-in campaign in American history. That way, since he’ll be dead, all those conservative votes will go right in the garbage.

  32. idontevenliftbrah Avatar

Trump isn’t running the show now, already. Why would they care 4 years from now?

  33. Parking_Champion_740 Avatar

He’s been showing it all along and they don’t care…
