Used to steal from work.

I used to work for a well known chain of restaurants in Scotland. One of the shift leaders (boss’ son) was very misogynistic and would be properly over the top when flirting with younger waitresses etc, and it was cringeworthy to watch. They just couldn’t take no for an answer. They were both always fine with me, but the boss never did anything about his inappropriate son. I was too self-conscious to tell him to rein it in, lest I lose my job, so I started my own private protest.

Some customers used to get vouchers for money or a percentage off their bill. It was either vouchers sent to their email, newspaper cut-outs, or from various other websites that offered voucher codes. You serve the customers, they give you a voucher, you type the code into the till and it reduced their bill accordingly. Easy. However, the codes weren’t unique. There were half a dozen that floated about which multiple customers would have. So myself and a pal kept a bunch of codes, and whenever a customer paid cash and didn’t want the receipt, we’d give them the right change and wave cheerio. Then we go to the till and input the code, reduce the bill, and pocket the difference. Sometimes we’d make over £100 a day, not including genuine tips.

Then I got promoted to a shift manager. Suddenly I was no longer serving customers, so I persuaded my pal to work on the bar instead. Every time he or I served someone on the bar, if they paid cash, we opened the till and gave them the right change, and just left the cash in the till. Worked really well with soft drinks and the buffets as these were a round price, and they were free refills so the stock was never reliable. At the end of the shift, the cash in the till would always be massively up against expectations, and we’d just pocket the difference. Again, £100 each per shift on a good day. Did it for years. Best part is, while we did this, there were another couple of people who were on the rob, but they were morons about it who just went and took cash out the tills without doing anything sneaky. We stopped doing it when they were working and they got caught and fired. Then we resumed! We must have had £5K each! What a rush. Both left now and can’t rob from our new jobs as we’re not stock or cash handling. Good times tho 😆
