Was I rude to assume he was a creep and brush him off like that?

r/

20F, I was on my morning walk when this guy pulled over the road I was walking on, so I took off my headphones because usually there are some people asking for directions. He indeed asked me where he could find X shop, I told him I don’t know.
He then asked me if I lived around there and I begin to feel kind of suspicious tbh so I just answer vaguely He then asked for my name and at that point I was kind of annoyed because he seemed like a creep and brushed him off by saying a made up name and walked away slowly, so I could see which road he was taking and I got back home because I felt kind of uncomfortable walking alone.

No, you were plenty polite. Always trust your instincts! He had no reason to need to know your name or where you lived if he just needed directions. You were right to find that suspicious

You did the right thing. If he tries again, take down his license plate and report him to the police. For all you know, he could have a record.

He was definitively a creep, but for future reference anytime you have this doubt again remember the saying better safe than sorry.
Decent men also get this and wouldn’t consider you rude for trying to be safe.
