What do you get as wedding gifts for “older” couples? My biggest hangup is I know they both make fantastic money and giving them a check would feel like chump change. Their registry is all but filled so I’m kind of at a loss. We’ve known one of them for about 20 years, if that matters.

I just give money. Everyone loves money, and it’s easy.
Money.

Money or Gift Cards
Money –
If I know they are going to a foreign country on their honeymoon at some point after I give money in that currency so they can use it for an experience, activity or meal.
If I think there is a chance they might leave for a honeymoon before opening the cards/presents then I mark the outside of the envelope in an obvious way (especially for like a wishing well envelope spot) and either tell or text them to make sure they open at least that one before they leave.
I make great money and I still get excited when my mom gives me a $20 for a little treat.
A $100 bill (or whatever you can give) in a nice card is perfect.
Cash money, baby
Something with a connection to your shared past? A long time friend gave us a small piece of pottery made in the town we lived in together years prior to our wedding. I still love seeing it on our bookshelf!
I was 42 when I (finally) got married. We told everyone that gifts weren’t necessary. Here’s what we received that made us go, “oh, wow!” Granted, this was very “us”: Le Creuset dutch oven. Vitamix blender. Season tickets to the symphony. Luxury cotton towel set. National parks pass. Southwest Airlines gift card. A case of fancy wine. Hyatt gift card. Costco membership and gift card (seriously). Money.
Gift card to a nice restaurant & a bottle of wine from their wedding year to keep on hand to celebrate their first anniversary
If one of them is a Lego fan, that would be a wonderful gift. There’s a lot of neat sets that people want but never buy.
Do they have pets? Find a local pet portrait artist and have a one of a kind heartwarming piece of art made for them
Something custom; a pet portrait or an illustration of their home as a return address stamp.
My go-to is a gift card for a date night. Usually, I do a Ticketmaster gift card.
Four (or more) bottles of wine. For their first, fifth, tenth, and fifteenth anniversaries.
