Last week I went to my friend’s wedding. You know when the couple cuts the cake together and all that? Well, the groom decided it would be a good idea to physically push away the bride and go feed his mom first.
So basically he takes a spoonful of the cake, he pushes away the bride (to clarify, he didn’t literally “push” he just touched her shoulder to indicate her to give him space), then he went to his mom, feed her the cake and grabbed her hand.
The mom was a little confused, but then she started posing for the pictures. During this whole time the bride was waiting alone in front of the cake. 5 minutes later the groom comes back to her.
Anyways, the makeup artist posted the video on her instagram. And there were quite a few comments saying that his behaviour was weird. He’s marrying his wife, he should feed her first.
This video went somewhat viral in our community (we are immigrants, that’s what I mean by “my community”)
The groom saw the video and reposted it in his stories saying “what’s wrong with people? Mom always comes first”
Now, please tell me if I’m wrong. But isn’t this a little strange? Why would you compare your mom to your wife? Why would you push away your wife and give the spotlight to your bride?
Isn’t this strange? They’re two completely different relationships.
I’m just saying, I would have gotten an annulment the day after if my partner did this to me.
We are Arabs and we do have a culture of “mommy’s boy” but I feel like lately some men are taking it too far.

Yeaaaaaaaah… that is pretty strange. Why on earth would he make his mother the focal point in a situation where it should have been his wife.
I wonder if that poor woman is regretting her choices, or resigned herself to this life.
