Hey all. I need some advice on what you would do/does this look bad/does it really matter at all?
I’m starting my academy on 6/17, but ill be starting at the agency mid April for prehire. Our benefits kick in the 1st of the following month (5/1). Ive been having some gnarly teeth pain the past week or so and think I need to get my wisdom teeth removed and plan to use a 4 day (memorial weekend) for recovery. Am I overthinking it that the agency will care that im using the benefits that quickly? Or is it like any other job where they give 0 f*cks as long you have the time off available. Just dont want it to raise eye brows…

The agency pays the same amount regardless of how you use it. Send it brother.
So to be clear.
You are in pain now. (March 31).
You get benefits on May 1.
But you plan to remain in pain, on purpose, for an additional 3-4 weeks, and THEN get your wisdom teeth removed and “recover” over a holiday weekend that you’d otherwise be working?
Because that’s going to go over, very VERY poorly with the department.
Now, if you would not be on the street yet and had the weekend off anyway, and you’re trying to be a trooper and not burn time off and recover over your long weekend instead of calling in sick, then that’s a different story.
(You should still not remain in pain for an extra 3 weeks.)
The department will not care when you first use your insurance.
