    1. New/leased property including vehicles. (Your home and vehicle ownership can own you)

    2. Disregarding financial self-discipline. (Impulse purchases)

    3. Disregarding health, both physical and mental. (A bicycle touches on all here and loops you back to point #1)

The big one is avoiding your mom’s house, the inflation is killing me.
Others would be liquor and hobby budgeting since those can get way out of hand.

I haven’t seen anyone mention Payday loans. That can start an absolutely vicious cycle of using one to pay off another.

Avoid spontaneous purchases. One helpful way I’ve found to do this is to put it in my online cart and then come back to it 2 days later. If I still want it, go for it. If I can’t even remember putting it in my cart, I don’t need it.

Learn to enjoy being alone. Having friends is great, but it can cost a lot of money to hang out. If you go to their house or they go to yours, that can be cheap. But meeting up at the bar every weekend gets expensive real quick. For some people, the simple solution is to learn how to be ok being alone. I don’t mean never hang out, cuz that can be dangerous too. But learn that you don’t need to be out every weekend.

Impulse buying – spending time to research what you want, figuring out if it is ideally what you want and how you can get the best price will improve your chances of getting something you really wanted or you’ll lose interest.

Not rationalising what you want – to save money towards a specific goal, you need to rationalise each purchase and accept that you are making short term sacrifices for a longer term gain.

Loans/credit card debt – if you have it, consolidate and get it paid off. Get it on the lowest interest you can. If you can avoid it at all, then do so.

I was once given these affordability sheets by someone. It is what they use to verify you are able to afford a mortgage. It breaks down all your outgoings. They should be easy to find. It is quite eye opening when you realise how much you spend on stuff and how little you have left until you take proper account of it. This is a quick easy way to ball park your financial health and see where you can trim back.

More than 3 in no particular order:

    • Scale up their lifestyle/spending every time their income goes up.
    • Spending future money that you expect to come in before it lands (I.e tax refunds or work bonus come to mind).
    • vices: cigs, weed, drugs, zyn, booze, gambling, sports betting, horse racing, strip clubs, hookers, gold diggers, hoes.
    • buying (or leasing) a vehicle new (when it loses 15% the moment it rolls off the lot). Get a used reliable car. Skip all the upsell bullshit.
    • payday loans; credit card debt; other kinds of bad debt.
    • doordashing meals frequently. Learn to meal prep and cook home. You wanna treat yourself. Go pick it up or eat out and enjoy it.

According to most, you should avoid women. Two big things are avoid eating out (so learn to cook) and don’t waste money on new cars (buy practical used cars with reliability).

Laziness, hard drugs, kids. Laziness is the real one though. If you’re working 60 hours a week every week then you can basically do whatever you want to, within reason, as long as you don’t have a serious drug problem or kids.

I once heard someone talking about common knowledge in billionaire circles:

    “Caution around the three F’s:
Everything that flights, floats and fucks.”

Seems like you should avoid high maintenance for people, since the named transportation methods theoretically aren’t that expensive.

Sports betting, going out to eat, drugs, bar hopping (at least weekly), Amazon, and hobbies that include regular purchases. For example I can’t go into a bookstore or a store selling magic cards until I can afford it.

A lot of people are listing women, and I kind of agree, but it depends on the woman. The kind you see on tik tok is a long way from the homebody girl who’s happy to spend time with you at home.

  68. tomodachi_reloaded Avatar

    Materialistic women, Drugs, Unnecessary debt

If you go after a woman who wants materialistic things constantly and expects you to pay for everything you’re going to be losing money.

Recreational drugs (and to an extent prescription as well) offer fleeting reprieves from what your escaping whether that’s reality or disease. Sometimes prescription drugs are absolutely necessary but you owe it to yourself to find alternative solutions to problems rather then relying on a pill.

Unnecessary debt is probably the biggest. Some debt is absolutely necessary just on economic grounds. Such as a car, house, or appliances (note, school is potentially subjective). But when I hear of people putting Door dash on credit or layaways I know people are taking on excess unnecessary debt that’s only going to hamper them.
