I am a male but never experienced a group lockeroom nor do I want to. The general stereotype in my family is that things get ‘sexual’ (I shall not explain further). I am just curious because surely there is privacy?

Uh… nope. They are rooms with lockers where people get changed, normally while avoiding eye contact.
I’ve never in my life seen anything get sexual in locker rooms. Privacy varies a bit. Some have private shower stalls, many do not.
It’s not a porno. It’s just a bunch of dudes getting changed and minding their own business
YMCA Men’s locker room will be a bit different than a college football teams locker room

During high school it was more of a “move away from the drain I need to piss, and ___ took a shit, so it stinks by the stalls”, a guy once slapped his dick (or made it seem like he tried to) on another guys ass, apart from that just change your clothes and go away

Football locker rooms definetly are a different atmosphere compared to gyms/PE/other sports.
I wouldn’t say things get sexual, but back when I played football in highschool the locker room was weird. Lots of “gay chicken” being played by a handful of totally straight dudes.
Unless it’s a sports team locker room there are no shenanigans or people talking basically at all. Nobody wants to even accidentally sexually harass someone

What kind of locker rooms did your family grow up changing in? Sexual? No man. You’re gonna see a naked dude or two. Usually they’re old men who give zero Fs about who sees them naked but no. That’s not happening. Everyone is minding their business. That’s it.
Wtf? I’m sorry you were raised this way. I’ve been in locker rooms for 45+ years. NEVER has it gotten weird. Some older guy do find it comfortable walking naked, but nowadays there usually someone say “Bro, put a towel on.”

People just get changed quietly, maybe a little light conversation if two guys who know each other go in together. Generally you don’t look at anyone else, but old dudes tend not to give a shit and don’t make an effort not to be looked at. There isn’t that much privacy outside of the showers (maybe), but everyone’s just trying to get changed and get out, so it doesn’t make much of a difference.
What? Literally millions of men change in locker rooms daily. If things got sexual, no one would ever play sports/work out. Where is your family getting these ideas from? They are literally…rooms with lockers. You go in, change, lock your stuff, come back, shower, change and leave.
Privacy varies across locker rooms, but things dont get sexual.
It’s just a room that smells of sweat and lynx/axe bodyspray.
