What are some effective counters to common Republican arguments?

r/

Hey all, I’m looking to better understand how to respond to common points I hear from Republican voters/supporters whether in real life or online. I’m not trying to start arguments, I just want to be able to engage in informed, respectful conversations.

What are some of the most common things they say, and what are strong, fact-based responses from a liberal or progressive perspective?

Thanks in advance!

You may need to narrow down to a specific policy that you are looking for counter arguments for. When you keep it general like this every argument is hate/racism vs communist/hate America.

Republicans do not operate in good faith, therefore is it not possible to engage in informed, respectful discussions with them.

If you don’t want to be plugged in 24/7, and you find yourself being thrown a talking point, just ask them to explain it to it’s basic logic. You’ll figure out for yourself why it doesn’t make any sense or is simply an act of evil.

Ask them for examples of everything, ask them “why”, ask them “how”, etc.

Every Republican talking point boils down to selfishness and willful ignorance. Every liberal talking point boils down to empathy. The faster you get there, the better.

    Rule 2

This is just too broad to be considered a question that can have a meaningful discussion. If you want to post a specific argument that you’re hearing and have doubts about in a new post, that’s fine.
