What are the overall thoughts and feelings of Brazilians and Venezuelans about the leaders of their countries visiting the Victory Parade in Moscow?

Might as well go. I believe Brazil’s real friends are in South America, mainly Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina(even if milei and Lula hate each other now) .
In the rest of the world we have economic partners, and Russia is an important one. Will it antagonize Europe? Maybe a little bit, but it’s not like Europeans are interested in any deeper relations with us, we can’t even get a simple trade agreement going between us.
Of course Ukraine is the victim of an unfair war caused by Russian imperialism, and the excuses Russia gives are complete bullshit. But our foreign policy has never been a moralistic one (neither is anyone else’s). We are more than willing to trade with plenty of controversial countries that do bad stuff, russia is no different.
I think it’s a great thing. Since the end of our military dictatorship, we have historically been a country who aims for good relationships with everyone – except for the Bolsonaro period, where he prioritised ideological alignment. So this is very normal for us.
There are some people who think we should side firmly against Russia because of the Ukraine war, or that we should side firmly against the US because of Trump, but that kind of comment usually comes from less educated people who happen to be very strongly aligned with one type of ideology or another (some Brazilian leftists have this crazy idea that Putin is anything but a fascist dictator).
Also, Brazil is reliant on Russia for fertilizers, therefore having a good relationship with them is an economic necessity that fortunately blends well with our international relations policy.
No reason not to go, Russia is a important trade partner, and celebrating the victory over the nazis is a good thing
It’s an important political event from one of the countries of BRICS, it would be weird if the President of Brazil didn’t go, or at least send a delegate other than Dilma, since she now represents the BRICS and not Brazil itself.
When Bolsonaro was President he kept doing events with the bloc, and so did Temer, I see little logic into complaining about Lula keeping what is, likely, the only thing that will keep Brazilian economy independent of Trump.
I personally don’t like it one bit, for me it would be like visiting Nazi Germans during WW2, but Brazilians don’t really seem to care about Ukraine. Geopolitically it makes sense to go, Russia is pretty isolated right now, so being a close partner to them is probably a big opportunity.
Normal. Russia is not Brazil’s enemy.
Disgusting.
Geopolitics is a sad thing btw
I dont mind, we should aim for peace and self determination, bur trading with warmongers is part of todays world. The usa is our 2nd biggest trade partner and russia 5th
Great. The soviets were the ones who defeated the Nazis and humanity should be thankful forever. And Russians were the majority of the Soviet Union so makes sense
Shame.
The guy who somehow ended up as president of Bostil is literally sucking the dick of the Hitler of our era
Lula is, & always has been, a fool. He should not be going to the country whose head of state has an ICC, of which Brazil is a state party, arrest warrant out for them due to war crimes involving children. He should politely have declined the offer to turn up . . . but that would have required some decency on his part.
Want to celebrate the end of WW2 in Europe, of which Brazil fought, in a combatant country of Europe? May 2nd is when all German forces capitulated in Italy, where Brazilian troops fought, after signing a surrender on April 29th in Caserta. Celebrate the defeat of fascism in a country that does not have a dictator that illegally invaded a neighbour.
Both Lula and Bolsonaro are fwb with Putin, and both disgust me.
Rússia is not our enemy, neither Ukraine. We don’t support Russian invasion, and I pray that the side that lost in this war is Russia. However there people there too, that want to live, and isolante then is not an answer.
I proud that my governament can ser beyond the hate, and sides. I proud that my governament can look foward and see a Future, were we all coexist
Disappointed but not surprised
Pathetic
Lula is doing good foreign policy like he always does, Brazil has no real friends in the western world just occasional partners, therefore, Brazil should act accordingly
Not gonna lie I wish he’d stay the hell there.
It’d be nice if he took Godgiven Hair with him too.
Even if I’m bot Brazilian, Brazil represents us and Latin America as a region, often they dictate the agenda.
And our current government is aligned with any decision that Brazil makes in the international stage.
And I’m sad about it.
You don’t need to partake in a military parade of a country actively invading another (even if there’s a façade of WW2 victory) showing his strength.
Yeah Russia is a big commercial partner, but they are not ending a mutual beneficial relation for rejecting the invitation.
Putin is a criminal with an ICC warrant, and Brazil is a state partner of the ICC.
I am ashamed. No democratically elected leader should support dictatorships.
Completely unsurprising. There’s no bloodthirsty dictator he doesn’t fellate
I couldn’t care less, just curious to see the media and western countries that gave full support to netanyahu giving lectures to the leaders that chose to be there
We don’t have any say on what the dictator does. We hate him before he went and we will hate him more after he comes back
