What are your favorite “childlike” activities you plan to continue throughout life?

r/

As a 30 year old woman, I will never tire of coloring books or reading children’s classics. I hope more people continue to reject the idea that they’re “too old” for anything and continue to do the things that bring them the most joy, regardless of if it’s geared towards children or not. It is also awesome to be able to afford the things you wanted as a child but either felt guilty asking your parents to buy or they just simply couldn’t afford. What are some of your favorite things you’ll continue to do/wear/watch/read well into adulthood?

I also still love to color, make beaded jewelry, wear my favorite character clothes, collect toys from my favorite fandoms.

  2. Deep_Somewhere88 Avatar

I still play video games, not as often as I did when I was a child but I still like them from time to time. I still collect physical media VHS and DVDs because there is just something nostalgic about it especially when there is a bin you have to sort through to find them.

  3. sheetofplywood4896 Avatar

Biking/walking with no destination, making things with my hands that have no meaning to anyone but myself, climbing trees, skipping rocks, wearing orange, eating snow off a tree limb, doodling all the time, sitting outside and staring at the clouds, pursuing eternal curiosity…

  4. GandalfTheJaded Avatar

Disney movies, still love my childhood/young adult books, drawing, and some classic video games.

  5. grannybubbles Avatar

    Bubbles in all forms.
I’m fascinated by foam and will create a foam vortex occasionally in my insinkerator with dish soap–I call it cleaning but it’s really just for fun.

  6. present_monkey Avatar

I always have a plushy to pet while I’m reading . I sleep with them and hug the biggest one when I am anxious. I’m 70!

  7. wearerofdinosocks Avatar

Swinging on a swingset! I have an adult sized swingset in my backyard, and I use it all the time 🙂

  8. Oppenhomie18 Avatar

    Eating chocolate, sweets and snacks!!!

  9. Oppenhomie18 Avatar

Playing dress ups n doing catwalk shows!!!

  10. msbunbury Avatar

Lego. I wasn’t even into it as a kid, we couldn’t afford it and it wasn’t so cool as it is now, but I’m now in my forties with an extensive collection of cool Lego buildings on display in my home!

  11. No-Inevitable-3029 Avatar

I’ve never stopped enjoying a picnic on the beach on a hot summer’s day.

  12. guardian-fairy Avatar

Watching my favourite childhood TV shows

  13. ChoiceReflection965 Avatar

All of them! I collect dolls and stuffed animals, watch Disney movies, play video games, and always go down a slide when I see one. Life is too precious to take myself too seriously, lol!

  14. FoghornLegday Avatar

I listen to Disney channel songs still. I am a 27 year old professional woman out here exercising to Hannah Montana

  15. coitus_introitus Avatar

I am 48 and I read children’s classics too! About once a decade I do a full nostalgia tour of the same ones I read as a kid. I even read them on paper by flashlight under the covers, to maximize the nostalgia hit.

I’m a pretty big fan of keeping good activities from prior eras in general. Most recently, I found out that those big bouncy balls with a handle that you sit on and bounce are now made in sizes compatible with bouncing even large adults around, so now I have three of them and my fellow oldsters and I sometimes bounce en-masse down the street to the pub.

I’m still close with my kindergarten bestie so we keep one another immature.

  16. Rare-Group-1149 Avatar

I’ll pick up random rocks or stones whereever I go.
I don’t “collect” them unless they’re really special, but I have this thing for rocks!

  17. GothicMomLife Avatar

coloring books. I’ve bought my daughter several coloring books, but she’s not exactly old enough to really understand the concept. Sometimes I’ll find myself coloring a page or two, signing it and leaving a sweet little note for her to find in the future. my mom did it for me and I still have some of my old coloring books, and I love being able to read the little notes she left me.

  18. South-Membership2305 Avatar

I will always like watching Peppa Pig she is so funny! One time she let begged her brother to let her play with his balloon and he said she could only if she promised not to let go of it. What did this girl do? She starts waving it out the window and lets go of it lol. He was so mad. Sometimes your sister is your biggest opp.

  19. WakingOwl1 Avatar

Swing sets. I go to a park near work on my lunch hour a few times a week and spend some time on the swings.

  20. DesertRat012 Avatar

I still watch the Ninja Turtles and the old Nickelodeon cartoons.

  21. Fun_Leopard_1175 Avatar

I’m still a critter catcher! Mostly toads, frogs, mantises, cicadas, lizards, snakes, moths, butterflies, and the like! I don’t care what I am wearing, who I am with, or where I am headed. If they pee on me or bite me, whatever. To alleviate my desires to play with all the critters, I have gotten really into animal husbandry and made my own “personal petting zoo” at home. Three snakes, a lizard, a frog, two giant toads, a bunny, a dog. My husband loves it for me and he has always loved my adoration for animals.

  22. Spiritual_Duck1420 Avatar

Bike rides. Eating buttered noodles. Treating stuffed animals like they have feelings. Finding comfort in Harry Potter.

  23. TravelBookworm Avatar

Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are still my go-to for a quick lunch!

  24. catsandkittens1308 Avatar

Less an activity, more of a thing: Stuff that lights up. Fun yard lights, glasswork, the Eiffel Tower sparkling in the night, Christmas lights – I have wall hangings that light up, I’m like an obsessed kid.

I will also always color, paint and doodle, and write silly stories and make up dumb random songs until I’m dead.

  25. the-pink-niqabi Avatar

Loving dolls and stuffed animals! I still talk to them and treat them if like they were alive. I mostly buy stuffed animals though. They comfort me a lot when I cuddle with them specially when I’m having a bad day. Of course I don’t tell this to anyone, but I think it’s important to always have the inner child within you. I at least wanna have a piece of my innocents still inside me and just relieve those happy moments I had when I was a kid to escape a little bit of my adult reality😂😂😂

  26. mydogisfour Avatar

I hope I always get excited by little things like butterflies, bugs, cool shaped shadows, moments of play in adult life are so vital for happiness – it’s so needed to joke around and just exist without a purpose once in a while!

  27. MISKINAK2 Avatar

I’m retired, and a recent empty nester.

This first year I’m being as childish as I can!

Painting! Colouring! Bike rides! Picnics! Yodelling! Dancing! Board game nights! Tantrums! Cooking if I feel like it, grazing when I’m hungry! Making friends with all the dogs in the building! Skipping (when my hip tells me it’s okay) down the sidewalk! chocolate milk and midnight snacks!

I’m a geriatric toddler gone wild!

In all seriousness, drawing and miniature rooms have kept my sanity especially for the heavy lifting parts of adulting.

    Never grow up! 💫🧚‍♀️🤙

  28. LolitaLi-Chan Avatar

Health permitting, zoomies. Sometimes I just gotta run/gallop as fast as I can from one side of the apartment to the other.

  29. certainly_not_david Avatar

i still play with a yoyo, always have – not tricks, just up and down.

  30. silkywhitemarble Avatar

Disney movies. Sandwiches cut in triangles. Putting chips in my tuna sandwich. Putting candies in rainbow order before eating them. Squeezing the Squishmallows when I pass them in the store. Wishing on a star. Collecting things that others think are absolutely useless, but make me smile. Giggling like a kid on the Winnie the Pooh ride at Disneyland.

I also have a small collection of books I used to check out at the library when I was a kid because I like making stuff. I still like making stuff….

…and no, you are never “too old” for anything. You’re never too old for Grandma’s kisses, Spongebob!

  31. GalaxyPowderedCat Avatar

Deep inside I want someone to play Just Dance and boardgames with me, lol

I understand that these activities are socially acceptable in adulthood as a groupal activity but I’ve never found an adult who wants to play them in my life, not even some kids and pre-teens when I was one. The only ones I’ve seen are all of you in internet.

Where are you all? Where? 🙁

  32. IntelligentAd4429 Avatar

56 and I still enjoy swinging.

  33. SnoopyFan6 Avatar

Blowing bubbles, squirt gun fights, jumping in puddles, catching lightning bugs, watching the clouds go by (bonus points if I can see a shape in them), making snow angels (except I have trouble getting up with my old lady knees).
    I tell my husband I’m 62 going on 7.

  34. GladosPrime Avatar

    LEGO… but the 80’s sets

  35. ehlehcoopeh Avatar

Watch cartoons and imagine how life would be as some cool mythical creature. I also work with kids so I take advantage of any opportunity for pretend play.

  36. EmmelineTx Avatar

My son talked me into a one year RuneScape membership when he was 9. He lost interest in 2 weeks because of grinding, so I decided to help him out by leveling up fishing for him. Long story short, life was hell back then and Runescape grind was relaxing. We’re talking divorce, mentally ill elderly parent, manipulative sister, etc. So, I could escape and just blank the bs and grind. So, it’s been 18 years and the character is maxed. I still do the fun stuff like the Easter Egg Hunt and quests Why not? It’s kind of fun seeing what they come up with next. I’m totally crap at PVM but that’s next on the list.

Wading in the creek and making dams. 71f

  41. olympiannnn Avatar

I love to watch the cartoons/animes/chineses or korean series I used to watch as a kid. Bring me back a wave of nostalgia each time !

Otherwise, i have always read mangas and plan to continue reading romance webtoons for a lonnng time
And also continue playing mobile legends, sometimes.

  42. LavishInside Avatar

Collecting Bratz and playing with them, loving balloons, playing children’s games such as hide and seek and freeze tag, but this time in a parking lot. Generally plan moments to have that carefree, pointless and useless fun. Helps me a lot with feeling happy, relieved and more relaxed.

I also love all kinds of play, bowling, arcades, amusement parks, laser tag, dodgeball, trampolines, water games, costume parties, foam parties, but my favourite ones are many children group games.

Lately I’ve been interested in some videogames such as Hogwarts, Hitman and Assassin’s Creed. I would love to play them someday.

And obviously mangas, but those are basically destigmatized now lol.

  43. International_Week60 Avatar

Jumping/ skipping along with excitement when I have a really good mood. It’s silly but it brings me joy. I also love dangling my feet sitting on a tall chair.

  44. loopywolf Avatar
    • Watching cartoons
    • Playing games
    • Drawing, Painting, crafts of all sorts
    • Leaning, growing, changing, improving
    • LEGO
    • Buying toys if I want to, because I’m an adult and I can do what a bloody well like (though NGL I don’t want to.)
    • As someone else put it: All of them! If they are fun, I’m still doing them. I would never not do something because “I’m not supposed to..” screw that
  45. ronpal Avatar

    Cracking my knuckles.

  46. hautistickitty Avatar

I like making jewelry with pony beads. Reading kids chapter books. Coloring and doodling. I keep a very child like diary in tow with my regular journals for goofy stuff and secrets.

Sometimes I have “no adults allowed” days and I am 29. I play with fidgets, squishvilles, Skipper Barbie dolls, I make Lunchables and drink chocolate milk while I watch Totally Spies or HK Fairytale Theatre.

And video games! Or swinging outside! Playing with bubbles!

  47. CassiopeiaNQ1 Avatar

    Bike riding and ballet lessons

  48. MonkeyBro5 Avatar

I plan on watching cartoons/animated movies, and keeping my favorite toys/stuffed animals (as well as getting more) FOREVER! I’m an artist, so I also enjoy drawing, and my drawings actually kind of look like they were drawn by a child.

    I’m 24 by the way.

  49. Procrasturbator2000 Avatar

I am partial to a good blanket fort. Now i make grown up blanket forts though, with an electric kettle inside so i never run out of tea.

  50. Global_Loss6139 Avatar

I love to swing or hammock.

  51. wonderbeen Avatar

Even though my wife thinks I’m too old and we have too many around the house, LEGO!! I’ve loved them since I was 7 years old

  52. Commercial-Novel-786 Avatar

I hope to go backwards with my hobbies. I painted when I was little, then moved on to music. I’ve quit music and am maneuvering to get back into painting. It’ll be my final hobby and I’m really looking forward to beginning again.

  53. Practical_Clue_2707 Avatar

Build a pillow fort, or any kind of fort. Bonus points if you get your siblings involved. 52, 49, and 47 year olds over here, we build forts, smoke a little and just hang. If my brother farts my sister and I tell our mom, just like when we were little (except the smoking part lol)

  54. candiebandit Avatar

    Skipping, Skateboarding, graffiti, daydreaming

  55. RandomUsernameSucks Avatar

    Model trains! Can’t get enough…

  56. Weasel474 Avatar

I doubt I’ll ever outgrow Lego. Have a good bit of my house showing off my nerd side (Star Wars, LOTR, Harry Potter, you name it), and love it.

  57. Legal_Scientist5509 Avatar

I get to play on the playground 9 mos a year.

  60. SkyerKayJay1958 Avatar

    Adult coloring is soothing

  61. JohnnyNomore Avatar

My biggest hobbies are action figures and video games. Stumbling back into my childhood love of Transformers probably saved my life. Thankfully, there has never been any guilt. My family is supportive, even if they don’t get it, and most of my friends are toy collectors or people I’ve met through gaming. My mom actually bought me a great Lego set for Christmas this year, so I’ve added that addiction as well. I’m 41.

  62. BellaMiley Avatar

Roller skating & animated movies. I also still have my bunny I’ve had since I was a toddler and will keep forever.

  63. MasterSpeaker4888 Avatar

I love books . The kind with pages and covers. Maybe a few illustrations . There’s no ads and you don’t have to charge them. I’m not able to interact with anyone who reads books and feels like reading has been eradicated for the purpose of reading. It seems like the purpose of reading is because you have to know something and there’s not a video that has been made about whatever subject. It’s just plain weird to me.

  64. fricky-kook Avatar

Kids movies, studio ghibli is everything to me

  65. MasterSpeaker4888 Avatar

I love adult coloring with sharpies, stuffed animals,Winnie the Pooh because of the deeper yet simple context and variations other children’s content. Lion King, Pocahontas, Little mermaid. It’s a relief from the hopeless woman who has to wait for a prince. That just makes me mad. It teaches little girls that they are worthless unless they are prettier than anyone else. Social media is no help. I guess I got in a soapbox but it’s actually a sign of emotional maturity to invoke a certain level of simplicity and small joy into life.

  66. bunnux Avatar

    Beyblades, Pokemon and moba games.

  67. PizzaWhole9323 Avatar

Stuffed animals and cartoons. I’m in my 50s by the way.
