Basically, the title.
I feel like my feed has turned into a constant barrage of America this America that, oh look at this thing a senator from bumfuck, TN said. US politics is present in meme subs, picture subs, everywhere.
I’d like to do a small readjustment to see more European content – or just stuff unrelated to the US. So, what are your favourite subs that are not flooded with America-centric content? News, memes, discussions, whatever – share it 🙂

r/soccer
Yeah it is a football sub but honestly it is probably the most based sub when talking about politics.
This one is pretty interesting. I also like r/SpainEconomics.
Subreddits related to video games seem to be mostly free from politics in general
I think most of the “specific topic focused” subs are still doing quite well when it comes to unrelated US political brainrot. Subs about a certain game / book / setting etc., so if you have any favorite media but haven’t been following those certainly give them a try.
Other than those, you can’t go wrong with /r/AskHistorians , /r/BestofRedditorUpdates , /r/bestoflegaladvice , /r/HistoryMemes and the like.
Here’s my French multireddit, for what it’s worth: https://www.reddit.com/user/magnusdeus123/m/france/
Made it back when I got tired of American spam during the first Trump presidency.
I have been genuinely interested in decolonization from American cultural influence and understanding soft power projection for a while. At least in my understanding, the easiest way to get there is to choose an alternative linguistic space other than English to base your Internet world on. I chose to learn French and go with that, but perhaps it’s also possible in other languages.
For subs in English:
Then subs in other languages:
I like to visit some of the niche subreddits in Swedish about some of my interests. One such is r/blommor – which is all about flowers and how to cultivate and tend to them. I simply love flowers and nature. Another good one is r/allsvenskan – which is a subreddit all about Swedish soccer. It’s so much better than the quite unbearable international soccer subreddit as it’s mostly free from politics, and Swedish soccer still feels so much more genuine than the big leagues.
If you like memes and LOTR, r/lotrmemes doesn’t allow political memes, and is lots of fun.Â
Other than that, many art subreddits such as r/Watercolor, r/drawing, r/coloredpencils etc are great to scroll through and admire. r/benignexistence is another one that’s quite chill.
/2westerneurope4u and some of the related ones. Europeans and a few others being arseholes to each other. Also comes with actual history lessons and information about various topics. Unfortunately suffering somewhat from an invasion of yanks, yank politics, and racists at the moment.
r/casualuk r/askbrits r/askuk r/britishproblems r/britishsuccess All Britain focussed by design, most ban politics as a whole. There’s also regional versions of most as well.
r/xcom r/xcom2 can you guess what games those are about?
And music wise: r/musicsuggestions r/musicrecommendations r/letstalkmusic First two are for asking for/giving random songs/albums/bands while the last is for actual discussion.
I generally avoid subreddits that deal in US politics. Mostly because I’m not American, but also because it’s a shitshow.
It’s hard to avoid entirely but I do generally avoid most of it.
/r/tumblr and /r/CuratedTumblr are always a good time.
/r/IdiotsInCars is… a time. Though most submissions are American traffic if that counts.
/r/meirl is a lot of things
The rest is mostly fandom specific stuff that you’d find yourself if you were into it. I don’t need to recommend you The Amazing Digital Circus or Linus Tech Tips or lgbt or furry subreddits, if you like it, you’ll find it yourself.
I’m a non-US and my favorite US centric subreddit is this one
r/hema and r/swords for swords and stuff.
r/Finland , r/Suomi and r/mina_irl for Finland. r/Finland is in English, rest of them are 100% Finnish.
this one and all of the other specific to a non-US geographical area
r/2visegrad4you is my favourite non-US but geo based sub. The holy kurwa union
Reddit is an US site, still dominated by Americans so it’s almost impossible to escape more stuff connected to the US, if you are searching for things in English. You need to find either some niche group or something not in English. Any general subreddit about news or memes in English will be with a lot of content about the US.
Probably this one and r/casualpt. But even if most of the subreddits I frequent have largely US commenters they don’t feel like they’re US-centric.
Is there any non-US academi sub as well? All the academia subs are full of /r/USdefaultism, which means 90% of the posts are completely useless to me
r/ScottishFootball, which is as you may have suspected, the subreddit for all things Scottish football.
The best thing about it though is the Morning and Evening discussion threads. It’s where all the regulars just shoot the shit about anything and everything that we’ve got going on in life.
To generally use Euro-centric subreddits, take a look at r/europe and those shown as “similar”, then there is r/<your country> and, at least the German-speakers of Europe have many of the international subreddits in German, often as direct translations.
(r/wallstreetbets turned into r/Mauerstrassenwetten, for example)
r/DIY is r/selbermachen
r/StVO is the most German one of all.
r/aberbittelaminiert is glorious, too.
r/shittyfoodporn has been my go-to
r/balkans_irl is pretty funny, too

It’s an American website so what did you expect?
I don’t even know which are us centric, I mostly see general stuff.
One recommendation I can share is trying out Lemmy. It’s a federated reddit-like platform where basically anyone can start up their own server, and other existing servers can choose to share or not share content with that server.
As a user on one server, you can follow and see content from other servers. I find this is a quite effective way to get away from US-centric spaces, and I joined feddit.org and am quite happy there (though of course it’s much smaller than Reddit)
It depends what you’re into tbh but my favourites:
r/Irishhistory
r/AskIreland
r/AskMiddleEast
r/Palestine
r/autisminwomen
r/catsaremuslim
r/PeriodDramas
r/names
I do not know US centric subreddits. I would check them, since i have no clue what Americans think, except the ones i met or comment in few subreddits.
Subs in your own language.
While r/geoguessr has a lot of Americans it is generally every international with people from all over.
r/YUROP
r/PORTUGALCYKABLYAT
And other European joke/meme subs
I’m on a few technical and collector’s subs. It’s okay in general but it’s still annoying people from the US always seem to assume you’re from the US too. I guess the only way to stay safe from them is to go to subs that are not in English.
The original and only 2westerneurope4u
It’s a mess. I opened my own country’s subreddit today and I think three out of five top posts were just news articles about the US.
Many subreddits have filters though.
Which just gave me an idea over at Twitter (X) –> add a block filter for everything containing words Trump, Musk or orange.
