What are your go to hygiene products that are worth the money?

r/

Hey Fellas,

Been using a lot of really cheap hygiene products and looking to upgrade to better stuff. Tired of buying cheap off brand stuff. What products/brands have you used that are worth the price and you won’t go back to cheap and generic?

Things like shampoo, conditioner, body wash/soap, deodorant, cologne, toothpaste, hair products, etc…

Honestly a nice electric beard/facial hair trimmer can go along way in terms of personal grooming!

In my experience, no, but we’re super good at convincing ourselves otherwise.

A decent Moisturizer, sure, cheap stuff CAN be good enough, but switching to one I use in the morning with an SPF included made my face a bit smoother. Not hugely noticeable, but the few € more are definitely worth it in my eyes.

Good trimmer, as someone mentioned, a well groomed beard/body gives a nice first impression.

Deodorant, especially the good stuff if you are a sweater. I researched a bit and found one that works for me quite well, and my sweating has gone down and I smell better overall.

And invest into a friggin Bidet. I don’t want to wipe with just some dry paper, water, sensitive soap, boom: So much cleaner.
You can find these attachments for cheap like 10-30€ sometimes, easy to install and sooooo worth it.

Recently switched from Old Spice hair product to Cremo which is like 20% more expensive for me. Old Spice did the shrinkflation thing with their putty/paste/pomade items a while back and ever since I’ve been looking for alternatives. Seems like I need much less of the Cremo for the the same effect, so even though it’s more expensive per unit, it feels like it’ll end up being a better deal overall.

Face trimmer—Philips norelco. I never close shave, stubble trim.
Shampoo—old spice head and shoulders. I’m not happy with it, still little flakey.
Bodywash—Irish spring original liquid, dove men, lately soft soap coconut.
Beard Balm—I think every man jack?
Toothpaste—whatever’s cheap and minty as fuck
    Toothbrush—same^
Deodorant— MUST be Gillette gel for summer and dove men spray for winter or on the go.

Sunscreen for the face! My fiancée got me into the habit, but it’s definitely worth it if you want to look younger and stay healthier long-term.

I don’t dilute it enough. But I love Dr. Bronner’s soap. The peppermint kind.

I can tell you that I use old spice antiperspirant. I don’t go to any other brand because I like it. But in terms of bar soap, I use whatever I like the day when I go to the store and I’m in the aisle. I am not loyal to any brand. Shower gel, I don’t use it. Shampoo, same situation, Not brand loyal and I just buy whatever I want that day when I’m in the aisle.

Safety razor. Will never purchase a cartridge razor again.

For teeth, I’ve found that everything works about the same, cheap or expensive. A Waterpik is a good investment though.

Actual soap. Sunscreen. Gillette clear gel antiperspirant.

Thought this was going to be a minimalist list? Nope.

Perfect Hair Day shampoo and conditioner. Numa hair clay.

Some fragrance that I find agreeable for the day.

Vitamin E capsules. I use a toothpick to poke a hole in the gel capsules and put some on my face every morning. Makes my skin feel really soft and moisturized all day.

I buy toiletries that do not have a smell and don’t cost a lot, I cannot stand the aromas of most.

Also, cheap disposable razors- $7 for a pack of 12 that last me 6 months or so.

I use the special sensitive toothpaste because I have weak enamel and can’t have hot/cold foods or beverages without pain if i try and switch back

Price no longer matters to me. I’m SOL if they ever discontinue it

Bidet or hose to wash your backside. If you use toilet paper and think that’s enough to get clean from feces, you need to know a thing or two about hygiene.

    Lume Coconut Deodorant.

It’s expensive as hell, but it works, the coconut one doesn’t stink (some of the others smell like chemicals) and…this is one of the VERY rare DOs that doesn’t cause my skin to break out.

I tend to do just fine using less expensive products. My shower only has Head and Shoulders two-in-one these days. I use it for everything in the shower. When I had long hair, I would not cheap out on conditioner. How to shampoo and condition long hair is a skill best learned from the long-haired women in your life.

These days I don’t cheap out on the barber. For much of my life I’ve cut my own hair when it was either long (lower back length) or short (1/2″ trimmer all around). But a professional fade makes me feel better about my appearance than the DIY trim, and is worth it to me. The cut is $35 and I tip $10.

I doubt I’ll be able to grow my hair long again until I retire. By then, it will probably be too thin to look any good long. Then again, at that time, I probably won’t give a shit anyway. We’ll see what the future holds one way or another.

I just roll in the mud and call it good.

You cannot beat a good shower gel. By good, i don’t mean the commercial 3in1s with the strong perfume, i mean a lightly scented antiseptic one from the drugstore. (Would give you recs, but depends on your geographical area – something like Pharmasept Hygienic or Dove Antibacterial, for example.). And it doesn’t interfere with the scent of whatever antiperspirant or perfume you would put on over
