What are your go to places on off days or weekends?

r/

Very curious to know where you used to go for fun on weekends and weekdays. Bowling? Disco? My grandparents said they just love to stay at home and listen to the radio and go for a walk in the morning.

The gym, movies, bowling, skiing, hiking, picnics, racquetball, the beach. Before we had kids we’d go away to B & B’s often.

When you’re retired, every day is an off day, and we can’t afford to entertain ourselves every day with something that costs money. Visit with friends and family members, go to parks. We do eat out in one of our favorite cheap local places a few times a month.

Lived in Arizona from age 22 to 32, and I was either hiking, riding my dirt bike all over the desert, or off-road in my Jeep, or skiing up in Flagstaff if it was the winter time…

Lake. Anything outside really. Mountains on vacation.

Friday is my bowling day. Not a league, just with friends. The rest of the weekend varies, but every day is walk the dog day. I’m a fan of college football and basketball so a lot of the time weekends are taken up with watching sports. I also read, 100+ books a year.

We like to go to thrift stores at least once a month. We don’t buy a lot but sometimes we need something, and keep going back to see if they have this sort of stuff, like a treasure hunt. I do go for useful things and an occasional decorative doodad. I wanted a different nightstand so keeping a lookout for the longest time until one that measured up appeared. He likes old tools. When we don’t buy anything, we at least spent some time together out of the house and saw some interesting stuff. We don’t resell, just looking for treasures. Sometimes we “rent” the treasure and donate it back after a couple months.

I retired to a small home on the Oregon coast overlooking the ocean. I go to the front porch. Life is good!!

I love to take my dogs for a hike in one of the local parks, on a weekend morning, so we can take our time and they can sniff to their hearts’ content!

Over to the National Forest for hiking, fossil hunting, and camping.

Drive in theater, older friend’s apartment (no good came of anything there), pine knob theater (lawn seats were only $5 AND you could bring anything except glass, so many picnics on that hill were had), concerts (we never called them shows), museum, art institute,
Fireworks on the roof of the building I worked at, Hudson’s Christmas Parade.

Grab the dog and go to the desert. My wife and I like exploring and camping. Sometimes, hit a casino.

Every day is a day off. I generally stay close to home on weekends and holidays if that’s what you’re asking. The rest of the week I go out to my favorite hiking spots.

I’m 50, when I was younger I did the same things as I do now: pub, concerts, clubbing, the movies or I stay at home, watch movies/shows or play video games while getting high and/or drunk.

Saturday is usually a lazy, chill day. Sunday my husband wants to go get breakfast. We took our first “Sunday Drive” last weekend because we couldn’t think of anything to do. We just didn’t want to sit around the house.

Any random Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, around midday, you might find us walking all the aisles at Costco, doing our walk about (=1 mile) and then maybe having something relatively healthy at the food court. We are more likely to get a glass of ice water these days, because Costco hasn’t figured out how to market healthy snacks. If you want those, you have to buy them in the store. Our local store has lots of bird life around a nearby pond that can be seen from the parking lot. We make sure to use insulated tote bags for refrigerated items.

Rock climbing with my boy most weekends at the rock climbing gym. My 14 yo really got into it and it brought me back to the days when I did it regularly so I started up with him again a few months ago. Not every weekend, but my youngest (12) and I go river fishing for trout quite a bit from May-Sept/Oct. All three of us enjoy golf so that’s a regular thing. I also like mountain biking and road cycling. I like to get out for a hike, but do that most often when we’re camping which we do a ton of on summer weekends.

I have a cottage on the shore of a lake.

Ideally nowhere. I’m still working, so I like to be off on my off days. Work around the house, do a hobby, play video games.

Occasionally, there’s a horror themed microbrewery bar that we go to for some of their events. In the summer we might rent kayaks on a Sunday morning. A few times a year we’ll go off-roading in our Jeeps.

I grew up near the water in Florida in the 70/80s. It was great then. We went to the beach, fishing cruised the beach and had bonfires. Rocky Horror Picture show for the midnight movie was a regular occurrence in HS. Lots of parties in high school. When I was a younger kid we basically just rode our bikes around, collected bottles and cashed them in for money. We would ride all over until we had enough to get a soda and play pinball.

I live in a small town and I appreciate the local businesses ( which are closed on m&t), so I do errands. Local hardware store & other shops instead of ordering on Amazon.
Yes it takes longer but I don’t want to just live in a village full of wealthy retired people with Amazon vans, I want the local small business owners to survive too.

There are less and less places to go with each invention for the masses. The telephone, the television, computers, cell phones, etc. means less in person communications and eventually more closures of ‘brick & mortars’. I would’ve enjoyed going to a dance hall or disco but I was born late, early 1970s.

Take the dog to different parks for walkies. I have a thing for Farmer’s Markets and visit several in the area where I live. That’s….about it.

To quote the Dowager in Downton Abbey, “What is a weekend?”

When you’re retired, every day is a weekend.

I bike around my community or hike the trails on the edge of town. Alternately I drive up to the forest area west of town (45 minutes) for more adventurist hikes. I also go out of town for live music when I see something I want to do.

These days in my retirement? There is no place else I want to go. Spent 23 years of my life in the Navy. Lived in 9 of the states, visited many more. Have been to over 2 dozen countries. I’m good, I’ve traveled enough.

I am quite content to be currently living in rural Minnesota. About the only time I go far, its not all that far, within 100 miles. And that far only occasionally. You know, for important things. Like taking my 14 year old grandson to see a tractor pull, a Monster Truck show, or the ever exciting Turtle Races or Potato Daze.

Otherwise there is a lake just 100 feet from the patio, and our boat dock. Nothing beats a day on the lake. An occasional run to one of the local towns, one is 12 miles in one direct, another is 15 miles the opposite way. Either to shop or to visit one of the small mom and pop restaurants I like. Or I might take a run over to the gun club, shoot off a 100 rounds or so. BS with other members. Plan on when we’ll hold the next Family Day, where besides target shooting we all gather in the clubhouse for a dinner of all you can eat fried fish, of maybe fried chicken, have little games with prizes and such. Since it is also a fishing club, maybe plan a group fishing day with a contest.

The season is coming, and I’m already planning our big veggie garden this year. Which veggies and the layout. And I get an occasional call from a local church run charity. More for what I know as versus can do, as I am partially disabled. Sometimes there is a poor family, or some elderly couple with limited funds who have a problem. Something not working, something broke, whatever. There is nothing around a home that I don’t know how to troubleshoot or fix. To include their cars and such. So I get called on to determine what is needed, can it be repaired or does it need replaced. If it is something I physically can not do. I can look over shoulders and give directions. Or if more complicated … I know people. Lots of them. Including people who don’t mind helping others. Right now a neighbor, a widow whose husband died recently, was testing out her lawn tractor. Getting ready for the season. And it wasn’t working. She’s healthy enough to drive it and do most of the lawn work, and likes doing it. But knows nothing about lawn tractors. I do. But better than that I know a 19 year old who is on the ball. He’s been working a convenience store but has started a vocational course to learn more about mechanics. And has been on the lookout for side jobs fixing stuff. Wants the experience. And to build a reputation. So he’ll work cheap if you buy the parts. Sharp kid, He’ll make it in this world. For gas money plus $50, she pay for the parts, he’ll fix it, change oil, filters, belts, tune it up to factory settings. A deal for them both. Last I talked to him he was going to sharpen the blades for no extra charge. He just wants her to speak well of him to her friends. What he really wants is to one day open a small engine shop. Lawn and garden equipment, ATVs, side by sides, etc.

So anyway, I stay occupied enough.

Bush or the beach, I still try to swim as much as I can even during the colder months.

We like to go for pho in the mornings, hike in the arvo, shop on the way home

Sometimes we even still go and see a band!!! But my favourites are dance parties at home with our friends kids

Got a 4WD and a small Camper trailer, spend my time travelling around the extremely remote areas of our country and camping out in the bush for weeks/months on end.
