Alright guys. I’m starting school soon and my husband has been in search of a better paying job to help support us better. He was just offered a position that fell through and now we are in a really bad spot.
He is a hard worker and has experience driving a forklift and some light HVAC experience, but is open to learning and doing anything.
I was thinking maybe a trade job that is entry-level friendly that he can get paid $30+ an hour.
There’s gotta be a saving grace here. Does anyone have an idea here for a job that is super well paid that a beginner can do?
Soooo What are your jobs? Do they make you happy? What is the pay range? We need advice from other men!

The problem sounds like he’s seeking a job that anyone can do but pays well. With no barriers to entry because the skill required is low makes the job by its very nature pay less.
>entry-level
>$30+ an hour
Good luck.
As far as your actual question goes, I’m a machinist making just north of $100,000 per year but that’s with 8 years of experience.
>super well paid that a beginner can do
If only life were that simple. Stay in school.
Making 95K drafting… coming up on 7 years of experience now lmao. It’s easy to get into but like any easy entry level job it’s gonna pay shit unless there’s other sacrifices involved.
What’s wrong with being a forklift driver?
Well you need about 7 years of post-high school education to be able to get my job, so it’s probably not helpful but it can pay very well even for beginners. I am an attorney.
I’m an accountant and I get paid well
I was a robotics tech for 15 years, paid about 85K. I went to law school now I’m an entry-level attorney and make about… 92k
The robotics job, I would hire unskilled workers for close to what you described. Attitude, intelligence, and dependability were key.
I enjoyed robotics much more than law….. like much more.
It really depends where you live. I worked in corrections for ten years and people averaged around 150k. That same job can also pay fucking peanuts if you’re in a shitty part of the world.
Industrial maintenance tech. $40.75 an hour. It’s fine unless your partner on shift isn’t worth a fuck. Mostly boring though, sit around waiting for someone to call on the radio. But it differs a lot by place. 30 an hour starting is common here (alabama)
i’d say double down on HVAC and go into business for himself.
self employed that pays just enough to survive
really F’ed up
Entry level for $30+ an hour means working in the unit at an oil refinery/oil field, or doing really dangerous stuff. And while oil refinery used to be a GREAT career that set you up for life (even if the hours sucked), jobs in the industry have been dicey for a while now. You can still probably do it, it just might not be guaranteed.
Otherwise you’re either going to need to go back to school, or else have a novel idea and be a great salesman (and in the latter case, he’s going to be grinding constantly for at least a while).
I deliver cookies & crackers to grocery stores 28-30 hours per week. $170k
I’m a social worker. It takes a decent amount of school, and I make about $30 per hour (before taxes, maybe). I’ve seen the guys who come fix our various machines and make more than that. Maybe look into some kind of technical certification program. Your husband might be able to make some good money fixing printers for the courthouse or something.
I’m a software engineer, which pays well enough it’d be rude to say outright. levels.fyi can give some idea
But in general jobs that pay well without much experience either have some weird barrier to entry (read: inaccessible) or suck (maybe oil fields)
software engineer, 650k / year
Junior level is getting more and more competitive but I still see new grads that are able to do very well for themselves.
Find your local UA union hall and apply.
Probably not gonna be an instant answer.
Pay varies. I bring in 100-200k. Depends on overtime of the job, scale of the local I’m working out of, how long I choose to be layed off for, per diem, etc.
I’m a UA pipe hand, travel for the money.
Working at home pays significantly less.
Apprenticeships will pay decent and have incremental increases every six months or per year. School at night or on weekends.
Every local is different so it’s impossible to give one general answer.
I work minimum wage in a casino
If he has HVAC experience he could be valuable on the HVAC sales side of things. I don’t know how hard it is to get that job, but if he’s a people person then it would mean less manual labor and higher earning potential
