benzodiazepine–valium, klonopin, ativan ….these are prescription drugs and you think they are safe. Doctors will say they are safe and then you try to get off them. The gates of hell then truly open up and you fall into the pits for many months and years taerping and recovering from these drugs. People lose their jobs, homes, spouse & children in the process.
easy. Procrastination, bad decisions, and thinking you can survive on 3 hours of sleep. Throw in a little bit of “I’ll figure it out later” and boom, life ruined faster than you can say “I should’ve studied.”
“Harmless” pranks/jokes or stupid ideas/activities/decisions. Things can and will get out of hand very quickly. One poorly thought out decision isn’t worth a criminal record and the lifetime of hassles that come with it.
One bad relationship with the wrong person. They can drain your time, money, mental health, and even isolate you from your support system before you realize what’s happening.
Robin Williams once said, “HMOs will pay for your Viagra, but not for your glasses. That way, you can have a hard-on, but you can’t see where to put it.”
Marrying pr getting into a serious relationship with the wrong person. Nothing screws your life up faster than that.
Seriously, your future self is completely helpless against the decisions you male today. Have compassion for that person choose who you date very wisely.
Gambling, it starts out innocent enough but as you face life’s stresses it can trigger an addiction. Its unique because with most addictions you recieve something tangible and or measurable….
IE, shopping, drug euphoria, sexual activity etc. Gambling there is no reward unless you WIN. That few seconds of potential is crushed in seconds.
You’re literally using money to gain more money! That hard fought work week is gone in under a hour. Albeit fast money in some circumstances but odds are you wont keep winning for long. So, discipline and strategy is key which most crack under a bad day that spirals out of control.
It is a addiction that loots savings, 401k’s, crypto and stock portfolio without threat. I know people who have lost their homes from pulling equity out to gamble.
I know people who live paycheck to paycheck to gamble. I know people who are employed but live mostly in their car cause they gamble.
I’ve known some who embezzled from their employer and caught a lengthy felony charge. And, i can go on and on about stories…. its a new world… its own eco system with cautionary tales.
Fighting, or any kind of posturing around fighting. Fighting isn’t predictable, is generally a felony (hello prosecution, bye-bye job), is an intentional tort (bye-bye money) and you don’t know who is carrying some kind of weapon.
Meth. I have seen too many friends go down. Kinda hurts to even respond to this question.
I could list names. I could cry about people entirely lost yet still alive. The common joke is cocaine is a helluva drug.
I watched a dear friend go from A student. College that most don’t get into. Sleeping on the street. Turning tricks. Losing teeth.
If anyone sees this and is struggling with addiction. Try to seek some help. I don’t care if you continue to smoke and drink or otherwise. Put the meth down.
False accusations—I have some experience with women that want revenge or take you down. So there is an event that I did do but her story is believed—and if she is pretty there will be guys wanting to fight—I hate vigilantes
My daughter was a straight A student who loved school. At 15, she made friends with someone who led her down a bad path faster than I could stop it from happening. It started with skipping school and smoking, then escalated sneaking out of the house and doing drugs. I told her she was ruining her and she laughed in my face. By the time she was 17, she had quit school, had been in and out of rehab many times as well as jail. At 23, she finally managed to get clean and began to get her life together. She’s 35 now, with a 10 year old son and if you met her, you’d never guess all she’s been through. She’s apologized so many times for laughing when I told her she was ruining her life because it has been hard. There are some places she can never work with her past but she takes full responsibility for it. Actions have consequences no matter what your age.
Not doing your homework in middle school and getting put on the “dumb kids” track. You have fucked the next twenty or thirty years of your life and you won’t know how it even happened.
