I was surprised to learn that periods affect your eyesight! I’m on mine and things are darker than usual and blurrier. I looked it up and what do you know the corneas thickness and shape change during it which causes temporary vision changes. And your period leads to a change in tear production.

    The hunger!

Edit: also how real chocolate craving is. And I mean real, not psychological. I don’t track, and I lose track of weeks anyway, so sometimes I honestly am not aware it’s nigh, but I realise it when I start craving chocolate.

When you get your period the change in hormones affects your vocal chords and makes it more difficult to sing higher notes. Your speaking voice lowers a bit as well.

You can tear your ACL easier! Young women are more susceptible to tearing their ACL than men are, but even more so while on your period

that PMDD syndrome is the reason for why i want to kill myself 7-14 days before my period is due and that it really sucks to have it with a “normal” depression 🙃

also prostaglandis being the reason for more frequent poops

It actually took me a long time in my life to believe other people got hormonal symptoms. I △⃒⃘lways thought it was kind of just something you say, or excuses. I still can’t relate to feeling any kind of hormonal fluctuations, even during my period, which comes and goes easily with a little cramping, a little blood, and no other symptoms before or during. That said, I understand hormones better having gone through pregnancy and the postpartum period. Those have affected me.

    • They can change as you get older. Lost them for 9 years, now at 28 they impact me so much worse. My back aches so badly, im 1000x more emotional, its heavier and so much more painful.

    • Period cravings. Why cant it be a salad. Its always ice cream, chcolate or cookies.

-baby fever. I dont want a kid yet. Yet for a few days around the same time id mt cycle, its all i can think about. Never had it before last year. It was such a shock to hear its a thing for people who dont want one or tying to get it.

    • endometriosis, fibroids and other related conditions. Its not bad enough ti get periods. Now there’s a chance of that. Pass.

I was surprised when I learned that caffeine increases cramps. Once I limited how much coffee I drank while on my period, my cramps got a little better. I love coffee and ironically I crave it so much more when I’m on my period.

Not sure if this counts but it’s a hormonal thing.. baby girls are born without inner labia. They develop later, AND they can “dissolve” when you go through menopause!

your hormones can cause ocular migraines even if you never had migraines before

Ibuprofen can actually reduce cramps and uterine contraction. I thought it only blocked the pain.

That I can gain and lose 6-8lbs during/ after my cycle.

And the week before, I want to eat everything and can absolutely not trust my emotions. I get completely locked in on something sad and will not let it go and am generally unsatisfied with my life.

If you want to find out some interesting facts about periods and menstruation I can whole heartedly recommend the podcast 28ish days later by India Rakusen. Too many interesting little tidbits to mention that nobody ever mentions about periods.
