What do you do with your evenings?

Hi guys, 19M here.

For the first time in my life I’m living alone and working full time. I had a long term girlfriend (2.5years) but we split up a few months ago, I’ve been spending that time trying to better myself. I do the usual – wake up early, go for runs, workout, staying late at work, and I play tennis some evenings, I read for an hour before bed, etc. I have great friends that I regularly hang out with.

Even then, I find myself 2/3 nights a week, and often a day at the weekend, getting in from work, eating dinner, and then having 3/4 hours of empty time before I go to bed. I don’t get much satisfaction from sitting watching something (I’d maybe watch a film 1 night a week, not much of a TV guy), and would prefer to do something which betters me as a person- some kind of productive hobby.

I assume most of you are older than me – what would you suggest I do with my time? Are there any skills you wished you’d learned when you were my age? I have so much energy and want something more to direct it to.

Thanks

I would recommend taking a class in something that interests you. This does a couple things, 1) it gets you in front of new people and 2) it gives you an education in something that can be useful later in life.

learn a language, learn an instrument, start a sport team in a 5- aside league with your friends like soccer or table tennis. there’s plenty to do in the world just got to find one that suits you. personally i gamble and drink

Find a hobby of any sort. Learn a language, learn an instrument, build models, do martial arts, learn to sew, build something, take something apart, learn to dance. You can literally do whatever you want to. You’re an adult with free time. Don’t waste it.

Nothing. I get home from work and the gym and just do nothing.

Do something where people are. Bowling is the classic, and many alleys offer young adult leagues so you don’t get blown out of the water by Bowling Jim who bowls 250 every game

Go the gym. You don’t have to wanna look good. But it just helps. Builds self confidence overall. Better health.

Hobbies by myself, hobbies with others, go outside and walk around, cook myself a delicious meal, go to the gym, hang out with my wife, hang out with my gf, hangout with my friends, go to work, doomscroll, walk some animals, lay on the lawn and watch the sky.

Basically, whatever the fuck I want.

Cars. Get into fixing cars. Learn how to do your own oil changes, brake changes, etc.

Time consuming to stop the crippling depression as well as saves you money in future. Winner winner chicken dinner.

Sorry to hear about the girl, that sucks man.

Sport, learning a new language, learning how to become a pro software developer, learning how to apply neuroscience to AI, learning about the world of finance, learning how to survive in case of shortage of food, flooding, earthquake, cultivating your own food on balcony, painting, journaling….there are plenty of options

Spend this time doing bits around your house, fixing things, making things better

I moved out in my early 20s and didn’t learn many DIY skills growing up. I decided to do it now in a house I wasn’t too bothered about so by the time I found myself a Wife and a nice house I could do stuff.

Decorating, or even stuff like tiling a part of your kitchen. If there’s any doors misaligned take them off and learn how to line them properly etc.

You will mess this up… Alot… But like I say best to do it now whilst you’ve got loads of time to fix it.

Its really useful. When we had our 1st baby my Wife accidentally ripped half the tiles off the bathroom wall. Luckily because I’d fucked up tiling a bunch of times in my first home I learned how to do it properly and it took me half a day to fix

Why men only? Women also have evenings for your kind information.

    Find a hobby,
You sound like your doing a fine job.
    Just get into
    Martial arts
    Puzzles
    Art
    Start learning a new language
But most of all start a journal
    Record anything important to you.
At the end of the year you will find that it’s a great way to keep track of what you do with your time.
And then as years go by you will have the stories of your life to share with your family.
