APPARENTLY. Two nine year old boys could use the money they’d made shoveling snow to buy three dozen or so boxes of these and put the crystals in a softball. At that point they’d have a concussion grenade.

Snaps or poppers
I think the generic accepted term is “snappers”, but “pop-its” is what they are frequently called in the Pacific Northwest.
The name varies regionally based on what brand name the regional fireworks manufacturers use. In this region, “TNT Fireworks” is the biggest distributor, so we call them by TNT’s brand name that they put on the box.
Example: https://www.tntfireworks.com/fireworks/cat/snappers/2767-pop-its
It’s weird seeing that people call them “poppers” elsewhere, because to me a “popper” is a cheese filled, breaded, deep fried jalapeno.
Also, we have a different firework called a “party popper” where you pull a string to produce a pop with an outburst of confetti, so “popper” would be a bad name to use for pop-its.

fun memory for me, my dad was a chemical engineer. he once decided to figure out what made snap and pops, pop, or go BANG. he then proceeded to make some almost “industrial” strength home made ones for us, with the chemical cured over very tiny gravel, inside gel caps with a tiny bit of paper wadded up inside as well.
boy, they were loud as fuck and that gravel did sting if it hit your skin. mom was less than pleased and put an end to the production after a short time. but we had a blast with them for awhile.
i miss you, dad…you were so much fun!
