If the traffic is super terrible, like 0 mph for over 20 mins, I like to put the window down, light a cig (very casual smoker) and crank the music mad high. Also, sometimes enjoy a soda if i had pucked one up. Everyone around me hears it and give me looks, but I just jam out having a good time.
Keeps mind away from being angry at the line of cars that seems to go on forever and ever and ever.
What do you guys do?

Loud music, who cares if people look at you?
Just focus on the music, and try not to think about where I’ve just left from or where I’m going to.
I like to call people and just state dumbass realizations for no apparent reason. Like the other day it came to me that Girls Gone Wild was the original BangBus and I called my wife just to tell her and followed by “well that’s all I always calling for”
I have some hard candy I keep in my glovebox, I only take them out for instances like this to prevent myself from craving sweets regularly too much. More of like a reward for being able to take the suffering of doing nothing I guess. Sucking on something sweet is better than just dying from boredom.
Rub my dick, and think about making love to wife when I get home.
Music I can sing along badly to at the top of my lungs. Which for me is mostly Irish folk music and sea shanties.

My Partner drives and I passanger.
In the past we used to talk, but having been together for 20 years now, there aint’ no more words that have been left unspoken.
So we sing.
Currently we’re about half-way through a Willie Nelson CD.
The last song we song together was “Time of the Preacher”, and yes, we attracted attention, we usually do, aint’ neither of us quiters, we belt it out load and proud.
Think about how lucky I am to live in a small town and only have to deal with this every few months lol.
I just get lost in thought, usually about recent events in life. I’m sure it looks hilarious because they’ll just see tall guy in a Honda civic narrating events on a documentary that will never exist.
I like to people watch when I’m in public, so gridlock is awesome for me because everyone around me is going out of their collective minds by the delay. You wouldn’t believe how gross people are when they think no one is watching.
Sat on the Wichita expressway for 3 hours last year behind a 3 party car wreck. I just accepted my fate and started singing along with the radio and enjoying my time until I got past the wreck and started driving again.
Jerk
Contract my stomach muscles . Hold awhile and release
I hated driving to and from work. This was after COVID when suddenly permanent remote work was rebranded as “flexible work” as companies stumbled over themselves in a hurry to bring employees back in office. I was told I would never be required to be on site, so I had bought a house an hour away from the office. Well, that was a lie.
I tried listening to music and podcasts, but that got old pretty fast. Then I bought a used car that had lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control, slapped on a third-party module that converted my car into hands-free self-driving, and discovered the wonderful world of audiobooks. Now I actually look forward to my time in the car. Just chilling there, paying attention to the road, and listening to books. The amount of brain fatigue that’s eliminated by not having to actively drive is immense, and good audiobooks really suck me in.
jam to music and watch people around in their cars or people walking by
I blast house music from my Spotify and have my own dance party. As a 60 y/o man I get some looks, but that’s their problem, not mine!
Report stolen vehicle give license plate and description of car in front of me, try to stick head in glove compartment, honk you know…the normal stuff
Gotta get yourself one of those after market radios or CarPlay adapter to watch Netflix, YouTube, etc
Hitting the point of acceptance helps. No point raging about what I can’t change. But yeah, get into the music, maybe have a cig with the window down. Just generally chill out.
It’s pretty much the same as entering the calm space after a train has been cancelled. Find the zen and stick with it.
Radio
Jam and listen to music
Usually, I am listening to an audible book when in my car.
Sing. Loudly
Nervously glance at the coolant temperature gauge every 30 seconds as a holdover from my days of driving shitboxes
Dig around between my seat and console for my dab pen
Initially, that kind of traffic sucks!
Eventually, you accept that traffic is going to suck.
I did some stupid ass commutes ~20 years ago in Mass. Milford to Beverly.
