What do you tell yourself when you start to get really stressed?

None of this matters. None of this could ever matter.

I wouldn’t actually recommend this, by the way. It turns out believing nothing matters, and not even in the cool absurdism kinda way, is not a super healthy way to deal with stress.

I focus on the things I can control. Stressing over things that are outside your control is a waste of energy.

That doesn’t mean I don’t stress about things I cannot control but it pushes me to let that stress go and focus on what I can do.

Faster it’s dealt with, the quicker the stress goes away

If it’s not that kinda stress. Then it’s more of a “Nothing I can do about it anyways” mindset and then imagine a chimp having these thoughts and giggling internally.

Oh it means this is really important if I’m feeling stressed. Let’s approach what ever is causing the stress with the utmost dedication.

    WoooooSaaaaahhh.

Take a breath and give yourself a minute. Very rarely is an issue so pressing you can’t take some time to stop and reassess.

    “You better figure it out.”

“Stop stop stop. Look around, what are we doing? What is happening? Is this normal?”

Fuck it. I literally say “Fuck it”. Seriously, after reading the book by Mark Manson, “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck”, I have stopped investing time and energy into things that simply don’t deserve it. It’s all wasted energy.

I copy the words from that Tom Hanks interview, “Even this shall pass” hopeful and grounding at a same time.

I do the math on how much cash I’d have if I liquidated all of my investment/retirement accounts and sold my house, and lookup cheap houses in the bumblefuck middle of nowhere.

That there’s potentially a world killing asteroid right around the corner and at any time, my worries might just go away

Athletes use it all the time. I call it: Talking yourself off the edge of the building. ‘Relax Mart…So you burned the store down, BUT!!!….and then you have to affirm yourself in the big picture of things…..Did you kill anyone/Are you going to jail/Do you have a terminal illness???? NO!! Tomorrow’s another day….just get better!

I go through this process that helped me go from ‘extremely worried and stressed about everything ALL the time’ to being more chill. I ask myself these questions:

    1. Is what i’m stressed about in my control?
    2. Will what i’m stressed about affect me today? (if no then why stress today)
    3. Is this a rational thing to stress over?

Its really helped me give myself time to be stressed but not be stressed all the time.

    Breathe! (Then do breathing exercises)

    Or
Instead of stressing about it, i could just fix it, as stressing gets me riled up more, but fixing it will calm me down.

    “Alright. Let’s get this done”

Stressing isn’t going to make the situation any better. But fixing the problem as soon as you’re able to reduces the time spent stressing
