They are popular here just like everywhere else AROUND THE WORLD. Sorry, I couldn’t help myself. In all seriousness, I don’t know if they were ever as big as they were in Europe, but they had a couple hits. They are probably best known for the aforementioned song outside of collaborations with and being sampled by American artists.
They’re iconic. That’s like asking if MJ, Journey or The Beatles are still “popular”.
At some point you either make it to iconic status or you shamble away into obscurity.
Daft Punk got absolutely MASSIVE in the US after they released their Discovery Album and it got it’s full music video film played on the very early version of Adult Swim/Toonami back when it was a blend of old Hannah Barbara cartoon edits and anime. Then they just seemed to go from hit album to hit album, Human After All, Alive, Tron, Random Access Memories. And tons of us went back and discovered Homework after Discovery.
I don’t know how culturally relevant they still are with younger people, and I know Gen X and Baby Boomers don’t tend to be huge on them (or electronic in general) but at least with folks in their mid 20s to late 30s, most of them will absolutely recognize Daft Punk. They were fucking iconic for a lot of people in our generation.
They’re fantastic, but they’re not very active these days. I’d argue most folks have heard a song by them but a lot might not know it was Daft Punk. But for what it’s worth, I’m not a fan of techno or electro, it’s just very boring and seems like it was made just for dancing. And I don’t care much for dancing
I think they are awesome. One of my favorites. They are reasonably popular, they win awards and their concerts are packed back when they still did them but they arent everyday names on an average day.
They were aot more popular in the Discovery era, especially with Interstella 5555
Some of the answers here are shocking to me. Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories is certified Platinum in the US (ie, more than 1 million units). They’ve won several Grammys. They have collaborated with legends like Nile Rodgers of Chic. I guess you just had to have been there.
I grew up on them and listen to Daft Punk all throughout the 2000s. I don’t know what is and isn’t popular today, but Daft Punk and Gorillaz were big gateways for electronic music for me.
Didn’t they break up years ago? I personally like them a lot. They’ve had no new music for over ten years though so I doubt they’re as popular as some artists who are currently releasing new work.
Daft Punk falls in the category of artists that are fairly obscure but everyone likes at least one of their songs even if they don’t know who made it and enjoy a small but dedicated following.
I listen to 10 or so songs regularly, and I’m 44. My daughters are 18 and 20 and they both have a few tracks on their playlists and have talked about how much they love them.
I’ve never heard someone say the name Daft Punk in real life. I get the impression they are only really well known among electronic music fans specifically or among people with a specific interest in music.
I listened to them today. Love me some French Disco Robots. Interstella 5555 was in theaters a little while back, there are definitely still fans out there.

I enjoy them. Don’t know their popularity.
Great artists, reasonably popular, I don’t think about them at all really.

They’re good, not my sort of music but they are talented.
They are well known in the U.S
Hugely popular. Maybe the most popular electronic band of all time
Popular like mainstream, no. They are niche popular
Not a fan but I’ve heard them and I think they’ve had a couple hits here. “Get Lucky” was unavoidable for awhile.
In the techno community, Daft Punk is still popular. Justice is also very popular in like pop electro groups.
They’re still pretty popular.
My teens actually like some of it
Their soundtrack to the Tron movie is still a 10/10 soundtrack
Electronic music is like soccer here. Some people love it, be overall it’s not that popular.
Most Americans will know their hit songs
As far as listening to them consistently, prolly not many

If you asked people to name a techno music band, that’s the only one most people could name if they aren’t fans of the genre.

I’m a fan
They were decently popular. I have no idea what they are doing these days.
Not like a household name but not unknown.
They seem to be getting a boost due to the trailer for the new Tron movie. Legacy had a great soundtrack.
yeah, people have definitely heard of them
I love daft punk, wish i’d be able to go see their concert
I haven’t listened to them in a long time
Solid as ever for workout music.
Very few electro artists are popular. Daft Punk is one of them.
They are probably #1, honestly.

They were very popular in the early to mid 2010s when electronic music was trending in the mainstream Top 40 hits.
Since then, pure pop and folk pop have become a lot more popular in the mainstream top 40 and I haven’t heard of Daft Punk in a long time.
If they showed up at Coachella to play it’d be trending.

Well known but no longer popular
My single favorite band of all time
I only know of them from the LCD Soundsystem song, and I only know 2 LCD Soundsystem songs.
Tons of people ha e heard of them but their height was like 10-15 years ago probably.
Didn’t they break up years ago? I personally like them a lot. They’ve had no new music for over ten years though so I doubt they’re as popular as some artists who are currently releasing new work.

Couldn’t name a single song without googling. I’m in my early 30s
I have no idea about their overall popularity right now, but Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger was everywhere for a few years.
They’re those guys who collabed with The Weeknd on a couple of songs and made a cover of Kanye West’s “Stronger”.
I listen to 10 or so songs regularly, and I’m 44. My daughters are 18 and 20 and they both have a few tracks on their playlists and have talked about how much they love them.
Never been a fan. They’re the radio pop of electronic. There’s so much better out there.
I’ve never heard someone say the name Daft Punk in real life. I get the impression they are only really well known among electronic music fans specifically or among people with a specific interest in music.

They are still going strong at Burning Man every year!
Dem boys got classics
Was never a fan of their type of music. Haven’t heard anyone mention them in years.
I’ve been a fan since the late 90s. Discovery was life-changing at the time.
I’ve always said if I adopted a French bulldog I’d name him Guy-Man.
Random access memories is my favorite album of all time and I listen to a daft punk song from their catalog at least once a day in some fashion.
I don’t really like their later stuff that much. Homework was their best album imo.
Homework is amazing album
