What does it mean if a guy calls you an old soul?

r/

I have an older male coworker (he’s in his 50s) and I’m early 30s. We’re pretty good friends and he said I’m an old soul. He only compliments me when we’re alone too. We’ve seen a movie together before and he’s invited me over for a drink but that never happened because he just threw it out there without making a plan. He also calls me sometimes when he’s had a few drinks and one time he was falling asleep while talking to me

You have wisdom that normally comes with age. It’s a compliment.

He is projecting his romantic ideal on you. And “old soul” comment means he fantasizes that you will bridge the 20 year age gap.

You already have plenty of responses to this in another subreddit.

Normally, calling someone an old soul means they’re wise beyond their years, as kids they make connect with older people better than with younger people, and they may not always be into the same things as their same-aged counterparts.

However, I get the feeling this guy is using it to make you feel there’s less than an age gap than there really is. He only compliments you when you’re alone, which means he knows it’s inappropriate. If you want to stop the attention, you will need to be direct. Tell him you appreciate him as a coworker, but that’s it. And stop accepting his invitations.

Even if you’re attracted to older men, getting involved with a coworker is never the best idea.

Since the Soul is timeless and immutable it means you’re getting schmoozed.

Generally it’s a compliment but in the context you’ve shared I’m thinking it’s his way of justifying going after a younger woman romantically.

If you want a romantic relationship that’s up to you but if not I’d say shut this down.

Child, just reading the post history on your account, the 50 year old is being a creeper.

Seriously, unless you’re looking for a relationship with him, stop interacting with him and contact your HR department.

Generally, if an older person calls a younger one an “old soul”, it can be taken one of two ways: either you’ve displayed wisdom beyond your years or they’re trying to charm their old arse into your panties with a tired line that’s supposed to not make you think about the age difference.

For those of us that come off to others as “old souls”, it’s simply our former abuse talking.

It means you act old. He’s not hitting on you, your not all that.

In this case, it means he wants to fuck you.

It just means you come may have a deeper maturity, or introversion, than others of your sane age display It could mean wisdom, (not intelligence, but the kind of wisdom that usually comes ) but could also mean you come across like you’ve lived through things or you have that type of “settled mellow” countenance that usually comes with greater age. It’s not necessarily a compliment, but it can be and definitely not a put down. Kind of like if someone says you’re tall – it’s just a descriptor.

It’s what old men say to women who are much younger so it doesn’t seem like it’s an old man creeping on a young woman because she’s actually an “old soul.”

Trying to get in your pants or something similar

So you seem like a pretty blunt person – you know this guy dates other women and likes them younger.

Do you know what the women he dates look like? Of course it should be more about looks but seems like this dude doesn’t have that kind of value system.

Seems to have a more superficial value system.

I’m wondering if you don’t meet his physical standards and that is why he’s being so cryptic and secretive.

It means he’s trying to get into your pants lol.

Means he wants in your pants and is trying out a cheesy line to see if that helps his goal

Old soul to me means one has lived many life times, has more wisdom than others of the same “age”.

He’s thinking about you in a romantic way. Unless you reciprocate these feelings, I would put some distance between you.

    Generally:

    It’s not romantic.

It is about your intuition, insight, wisdom beyond your years, and ability to connect with others.

    Specifically:

No idea. I have not read anything other than your question.

While it’s wonderful to have friends from all backgrounds and ages, work isn’t the best place to make friends as your primary relationship is professional.

This shared, I’ve made friends with co-workers but the work environment today is safer not.

We live in unusual times politically and it’s important to maintain professional boundaries.

He’s trying to normalize the age gap between you, as he’s interested in you romantically/sexually.

Bluntly, he’s trying to get in your pants.
