I came across a situation that raised some questions and would appreciate some information. A while back, I saw a Facebook ad for an online numerology consultation. I’m interested in these topics, so I decided to try it. The website required my card details to process the payment, and I assumed it was a one-time fee. The consultation was fairly general, not particularly detailed, and I didn’t think much of it afterward.
A couple of days ago, I noticed a charge in my banking app without prior notice. I checked my email and found no mention of a subscription, only the confirmation of the initial payment. I tried logging into my account on the site, but it says it doesn’t exist. I contacted their support team, but I haven’t received a response yet. I searched online for guidance on such charges or company registration, but I couldn’t find clear explanations.

They may have processed the charge wrong(whether on purpose or by accident is up for debate…) but you can do a charge back on your creditcard for the new one and dispute it since you never signed up for an account and according to the business’ records no such account exists as you already confirmed
In the UK, verifying a company’s registration means checking if they’re officially recorded with Companies House. That’s the government body that keeps track of all businesses. They’ll have a registration number, and you can see if they’re active or if they’ve been dissolved.
A lot of these online consultation sites use a low initial fee to get you hooked, then start charging more. The lack of a subscription email is pretty standard – they don’t want you to notice the recurring payment right away
If a company is registered in the UK, they should have a record on Companies House. You can see their official details there, like their founding date and whether they’ve filed taxes
When you get charged without notice, it often means the website used a payment gateway that automatically renews your plan
