Common courtesy is being polite and cordial with everyone as a baseline
Respect is holding someone in elevated regard. Whether acknowledging achievements, seniority, etc. Usually a specific attribute of the individual that elevates them over you in one way or another. Respect is acknowledgement of that gap and showing humility that they do have at least one attribute that is better/superior to yours. Not every attribute is “deserving” of respect, and not everyone will give respect to someone for an attribute. But at its baseline, “respect” is humility toward someone who you believe to have a superior quality to you in some way
A reverance for an individuals or places significance in the world and holding people, their body and their opinions in positive standing unless they disrespect you or others.
Shortend to: A mutual effort to maintain the dignity of both parties

Respect is earned. It shouldn’t be given out like candy just because.
