I have a deep rooted trauma, that prevents me from eating any kind of fish/seafood. It may sound stupid, but I watched a lot of tiktoks, where people are eating seafood boil, and I wanna experience it at least once in my life.
I wanna start to reintroduce fish and seafood into my diet again. Haven’t eaten it since I were 4 y.o., except few times, when someone tried to trick me into eating it by masking it as something else, trying one shrimp at McDonald’s, and when I got someone else’s order in restaurant (all the instances ended up being sick)
I get sick from smell and taste of fish pretty easy. The only exception – dried squid rings, once in a while (like, once every 2-3 years).
So, I need some help from you, Reddit. How should I reintroduce fish into my diet?

You want to avoid oily fish like Salmon and go for white, meaty fish like Cod or Haddock.
Flounder and striped bass are also very mild fish.
I dont think theres anything you can eat that will fully eliminate that “fishy” taste. If you truly want to try and reintroduce seafood into your diet its something you’re gonna have to try and get yourself used to.
Things like Cod or Tilapia are probably a decent starting point. Neither of them are super fishy tasting and both can easily be masked with herbs/garlic and lemon juice to make you taste the fishiness even less.
Halibut
The fish is basically flavorless.
Breaded cod prob, salmon is a bit fishy but the fattiness might be enough to overcome that as it’s delicious
Fish and seafood smells a lot worse when it’s not fresh. A lot of seafood boil places don’t use the freshest fish available. The best thing to do is go to a fish market, near the ocean, and some of these places will boil the seafood for you. It’s a lot fresher then the little restaurants.
Cod or haddock.
Where on God’s green earth do you live that McDonald’s has shrimp??
Sunfish or crappie is the best.
Broiled/blackened grouper
Kelp, octopus, crab, most non fish tastes nothing like fish
Well, go for sushi. Good fish doesn’t taste like fish
Orange Roughy is a very mild fish. Lemon salt and butter is all you need.
I find freshwater white fish to be the least fishiest, mainly perch. I suggest getting a smaller/thinner piece of something blackened or fried since it will taste more like what it’s made with in case you don’t like the fish itself
It’s kickass that you want to expand your palate, but if it makes you sick every time, maybe cross it off the list? It could be something deeper than just not liking it. Also, where are you that McDonald’s has fried shrimp?!
Flounder has no fish taste.
Pompano, cod, flounder, and barramundi are pretty mild tasting fish. I wouldn’t suggest catfish or tilapia as they can taste pretty muddy/fishy.
Also try grilled shrimp, steamed crab legs, or fried calamari
Make sure what you eat is very fresh and not overcooked, both cause more fishy smell/taste. I find tilapia and other white fish are pretty mild. If you’re doing oily fish like catfish, go heavy on the spices. Cajun catfish is really good. Adding lemon/lime/ginger also cuts the fishy flavor. Seafood, especially invertebrates from very cold water is going to taste better and more buttery than warmer water equivalents. Fish should be frozen or cooked right after catching if possible, and the blood should be drained while euthanizing. Blood ads to the fishy flavor.
Sole and trout are my favorites
If you’re having lake fish, then walleye and perch are very mild, especially fried and with lemon juice
Sea scallops are extremely mild. Not fishy at all. Haddock and cod too. (That’s what they use for fish and chips.)
Scallops. Try them deep fried or in a pasta! Tastes “sweet”
Whatever fish you decide to go with, if you’re cooking it yourself, make sure to be very careful to not overcook it. Look up recommended times for the specific fish you get. A lot of people are recommending cod, but I think it’s gross and tough if it’s overcooked. My other recommendation is to use butter, and finish with a light squeeze of lemon
