Say the rest of my life is just work and sleep and I have no family. What happens when I die? Who takes care of my body and where does it go if no one claims me?

Ask me again in about 25 years.
When it’s found, they’ll try to locate family but if none exist, the state buries your remains in a simple plywood box. Often in a “Potter’s field” which is a cemetery of the unclaimed. They usually stack them 3 in one 6 foot deep grave. And that’s it.
In my country theres married partner, kids, parents/siblings, roommates.. priority if you really don’t have anyone the state takes your inheritance. So yeah the state pays for your funeral costs etc.
Speaking of this reminds me of not so happy case that happened nearby. A relative is a mayor and in their city residents complained of strong smell inside their apartments.. it took some time for it to get to police and for them to get a search warrant.. turns out an old lady lived there had no relatives and died.. the window was open and she has been decomposing there for around week-two. So yeah.. if you’re old and have absolutely no one to check on you a senior house is the better option. Or paying a person to check on you once in a while and bring you groceries if you have money for that.
Pretty sure the government gets all your stuff

In NYC I think they bury you on an island called Potters Field with others that no one has claimed the body. New State gets any money not claimed by relatives, Fun times indeed.
