When my manager told me I couldn’t work from home because “it sets a bad precedent,” then proceeded to send the email. from her home office. That was my ah, got it moment. Ever since, I’ve kept the receipts and adjusted my expectations accordingly. Funny how some rules are more flexible when you’re higher up the chain.

I had a platoon sergeant who told me to “keep pushing” while under direct fire from an unknown element. I kept pushing.

The enemy rushed my platoon and ended up almost on top of my element. When that transpired, my platoon sergeant ran away and left my squad and myself to fend for ourselves. We were in a draw, backed up onto a mountain side during the middle of the night.
    My senior NCO ran away.

    We made it out, barely.

At the end of our tour, he was awarded a bronze star.

I forgive him for running… I wanted to run too, the only difference was I stayed with my men.

Also, fuck the GWOT. We were the bad guys. 20 years for nothing.

Back in college, my parents and their friend were yelling at me because I was shit at calling people back.

During this, i got accused of not calling a cousin when her brother died, years prior. I responded saying that i did call, and left a message but never heard back.

I then get yelled at for not calling until I got a response.

So basically, someone calls me and I don’t respond, i get yelled at (rightfully so). I call someone, and they don’t respond, i STILL get yelled at.

Neighbor put a fence on my property. When I called the police they said that they couldn’t do anything as it was a civil matter.

So I asked if I could go to their house, or the mayor’s house, put up a fence in their front yard and graze my livestock there… They said no, that they would arrest me.

    WTF?

My assistant principal would send me to Costco to buy birthday cakes for staff during the work day and when I asked to leave a little early to buy some food for a work PD, she said I was soooooo unprofessional. How dare I think I could buy food during the work day?

I pointed out she’s asked me to go to Costco and shop rite many times, and her face changed. She was so mad! Called me immature because those two situations were not the same at all.

    Ya keep telling yourself that!

At my previous job I worked shifts, I started having seizures and got diagnosed with epilepsy.

Occupational health said I can’t be working night shifts anymore as that can be a trigger for seizures, back office asked me to put in a flexible working pattern, I did and then got called into the office to say it’s been declined because there are too many people on flexi patterns (they’re not wrong but I’m sure I was the first person to actually get turned now).

Baring in mind this is due to an actual disability and not kids/headaches/a bunch of other fairly dodgy excuses to get out of nights, I couldn’t believe how unsupportive they’d been towards me.

They said I can’t carry on in my job if I can’t work nights, I told them I want to keep my shift work if it means keeping my job and was told they can’t go against occupational health.

They put me on a plan for redeployment where every job was a huge pay cut because of losing shift allowance, I upped and left and went in on them at my exit interview about how unsupportive they’d been.

I’m now in a job where I’m much happier and paid more anyway but the added stress on top of what was already an incredibly stressful time in my life felt very unfair when I’m the only one who they seemed to have a problem with dropping shifts.

2006, I’m in the Navy and we’re in Australia. A chief (senior enlisted) comes back to the boat drunk and goes into a sleeping area. Decides it’s dirty and stuffs people’s things into a seabag and tosses it overboard. But now the ship’s office is dirty. So he wakes up a junior member of his division and makes him start cleaning it while berating him telling him he should kill himself and whatnot.

Next day shit hits the fan. The biggest deals about the seabag was a few people’s radiation dosimeters were in there. So we can’t keep this quiet because we need everyone in the harbor to deactivate their sonar so we can send divers in the water to locate this stuff.

This chief gets his ass reamed by every other chief with the door wide open. And that was it.

Junior enlisted were getting busted, restricted, and given extra duty for far less.

The only one I can think of has generally been office wear. It’s a small thing, but it does my tits in over how backwards and stuck up employers are about it.

Not to make it a ‘thing’ but the women at our company get away with wearing pretty much anything so long as it isn’t provocative or revealing.

I can’t stand wearing ties, so after I’d been settled for a while I stopped wearing them. This caused a fuss but was dropped when I brought up that none of the ladies were wearing ties; now there’s like two dudes who wear ties.

A few years ago I got sick of having to sit in a puddle of my own sweat because we couldn’t wear anything other than the normal office wear, whereas the ladies got to wear airy dresses and genuinely appropriate clothing for the weather. So after the fourth or fifth day I start coming in shorts. Again, a big stink was made that it didn’t look professional, so I just stopped working as soon as the thermometer reached 30° (it was hitting 40° regularly at the time). This obviously wasn’t ideal for management but when I threatened to start coming in dresses (which no one wanted) the matter was dropped and we’re now free to wear shorts.

We’re now at a point where some of the lasses are just wearing their normal clothes so when I’m back at work in a week I’m going go be introducing my hawaiians to the office.

    This applies in every country.

I was forced to quit this office job I was working at because my father also worked in the same building. Basically I was told by the boss that they can’t have family working in the same building. Understandable. After I leave, I found out that she (the boss) proceeded to hire both of her sons and daughter to work in the office.

I’m not going to lie, it was a slap in the face.

When an employee kept being rude and raising her voice anytime she was slightly inconvenienced, then when i started to almost match her energy (occasional curt responses and slightly raising my voice when she was), and I got a meeting with HR about how I’m creating a hostile work environment. Like oh ok, you can take all your irritations about life out on me, but if I show even the slightest irritation that you’re doing so you run to HR. Awesome.
