I am 18 weeks pregnant with my first but have noticed significant changes in my body image (for the better) and in my ability to ask for help. Body image was rough before getting pregnant, and was rough at first when I got pregnant, but have implemented being more mindful/meditating positively about my body, and it has done wonders for me. I am also in therapy, which is incredibly helpful. I am very much looking forward to how the rest of my pregnancy journey and journey into motherhood changes me.
I’m a dad, so not exactly the target audience here, but watching my wife go through it and being in it with her changed everything for both of us. Before the baby, our lives were pretty chill—we had time for weekend trips, late dinners, spontaneous plans. After our daughter was born, all of that basically went out the window. Sleep became a luxury, and we had to learn this whole new rhythm of life where everything revolved around this tiny human who needed us 24/7. It was overwhelming at first, not gonna lie. We were both exhausted and snapping at each other more than we wanted to admit.
But at the same time, it brought us closer in a way I didn’t expect. Like, we started appreciating the little moments more—baby snuggles after a 3am feeding, laughing at how ridiculous we looked singing to keep her calm, or just managing to sit down and eat a hot meal together. It’s not easy, and I miss parts of the “before” life, but the love and pride I feel now when I see my kid smile or take a wobbly step… man, it makes all the chaos worth it.
