What if mammoths had been around in historic times or were even around today??? What would change about humanity and would they end up extinct from big game hunters given the obvious temptation towards a large wild herbivore?

Uh, yeah. That’s sort of the point.
They would have gone extinct later and we would have better sources of their DNA. Humans are a plague unto the earth.
More meat to eat.
We should bring them back and find out. It’s possible at this point, we have fully preserved frozen tissue. The tech is there, we could do it.
TBH it’s completely maddening that we haven’t already done this.
I don’t think we should bring back T-Rex like Jurassic Park, but some big furry elephants? It can’t go that bad and if it does we’ll just kill them off.
