Not my SO, but my best friends threw me a low key 30th birthday with a “Tinis and Weenies” theme because they know I love martinis and hot dogs lol. It was toned down and simple and everything I could have asked for and I will never forget it.
I think it was simple because it was literally just dinner (sushi), drinks (arcade bar), and Lazer tag.
Lazer tag and sushi were the only things I cared about and they were AWESOME!
The arcade bar was fine, but I didn’t get too many drinks there because a friend and I had already drunk the bottle of wine my husband had stashed in the glove box of our car for the event while in between moments.
No one was driving when the bottle was consumed and no one who consumed it was going to be driving.
I organized a hiking trip to my favorite place in the world. It’s a 2 hour drive from our city, and we needed to be at the trail by 8 am to avoid the crowds and the heat… All 12 of my closest friends came. I didn’t know they would. To see them all come for me that early and drive up… THEN do the actual hike was so special. I wanted to share with them this beautiful peace of heaven, and they were so happy I did. Then they treated me to a nearby brunch place. It was one of the best birthdays.
We booked an Airbnb in wine country near us but it was super off season (my birthday is in January and we live in Canada). This wasn’t planned but it was bad weather so we ditched our dinner rezo, got a frozen lasagna, opened a bottle of wine we bought that day and played scrabble until 2am at our cute little cabin Airbnb. Honestly my favourite birthday.
All my SOs past and present have been real shitty about my birthday. I can’t count how many times it’s been forgotten. I always miss my mom during my bday because she always acknowledged it and got me cake or a little treat. I miss her.

Took me to an animal sanctuary and made dinner reservations and the restaurant gave me a birthday card and bottle of wine. He also got my dog a chew toy for my birthday which is honestly so perfect lol
I came home to my fiancé (boyfriend at the time) making me dinner in our backyard. He told me I had to wait in my car for 5 minutes and I was so confused why. I walked out back, I saw him finishing up grilling, candles lit and our favorite kind of music playing. I was so stunned because I wasn’t expecting it at all and cooking is not his thing. And then when I walked into the house and I found a whole cheesecake (my favorite dessert), a new golf bag and the entire house was clean 🥺
When I turned 25 during the pandemic, nobody wanted to come as I live 5 minutes across the border between Germany and the Netherlands, and you had to have a negative Covid test on you if a border control occured. My family didn’t want to get tested so I was pretty fucking sad.
My SO is a teacher and was doing zoom classes in another room, and after a while he asked me to come into our studyroom
As soon as I walk in a class of very annoyed and off pitch teenagers start singing happy birthday over zoom.
I almost started crying just because I thought it was so cute that he got 30 teenagers to sing happy birthday to a woman they don’t know from their bedrooms
He rented a private helicopter ride for us around the city and then booked out an entire French restaurant and hired a private violinist to play for us while we ate.
Last year my husband got us tickets to see a minor league baseball game on my birthday after work.
Not only do I love baseball and we go regularly, but my birthday fell on the same weekend as the children’s hospital fundraiser at the stadium! And I used to be very, very sick as a kid and spent many stays in a children’s hospital. So he knows how much it means to me to support causes like that.
It was such a fun night! Just him, me, and our best friend watching an epic game and giving money to our favorite cause.
Did a charity thing for my birthday one year. He sourced one of the elusive PS5s at the time to help raise more donations for the cause I was supporting.
My first birthday we were together, I turned 22. We had only just started to get serious, after casually dating for a few months, so we were still on slightly unsure footing in terms of big romantic gestures. He gave me a dozen eggs and a pound of bacon with a funny note apologizing for always eating my breakfast food during the early days when we weren’t “supposed” to be having sleepovers because we weren’t serious yet. I thought it was funny and sweet. Then, he totally shifted gears and told me to be ready for dinner by 8, and took me out for a romantic dinner. It was our first really romantic, high end dinner date.
I thought he totally nailed the weird transition from casual to serious, but to this day it’s the eggs and bacon that I remember most fondly.
Not a significant other, but a few years ago me and my two best friends spontaneously last minute booked a 3 day trip to Portugal for cheap. I’m pretty sure we drunkenly booked it after a girly wine night. Spent my actual birthday drunk and pulled an all nighter, awake at 6am on a hidden beach with Portuguese locals who kept calling me ‘birthday queen’ smoking hash a few hours before our flight home. Was beautiful and I’ll never forget being so lucky to have two best friends who will up and do something super spontaneous with me
Not my SO and it happened very recently, but a friend knew I moved into a new apartment and that I was missing some cups, so he ordered me some as a surprise housewarming gift 🙂
I was really moved because he didn’t have to get me anything and he mailed the package to my house
My partner and I are long-distance, and iirc the first time she met a lot of my friends in-person was my birthday party the first year we were together, which was a casual karaoke night at a local pub. Such a fun time, and it meant a lot to me to introduce all these important people in my life to each other.
When I turned 10 my parents put sticky notes all over the house. Literally everywhere I would look. The ladder down my bunk bed, the door, the mirror in the bathroom, my tooth brush/paste, the toilet lid, the cereal box, the fridge handle, inside the fridge, on the milk etc. because I was SO excited about being double digits.
My first birthday with my husband he did something really similar after I told him about how meaningful it was to me. All over the house, in my car, my purse, my lunch box. It was the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me and even now thinking about it makes me love him more.

My ex arranged for all my close family to be together for my 25th. The event itself wasn’t anything particularly special, just a gathering… but it was the last time I saw my Nana alive. I hadn’t seen her for some months before, so I’ll always be grateful to be able to remember that day with her.
She made a blanket fort in our living room, ordered my favorite takeout, and we watched old movies all night. Super simple, but I’ll never forget it.
I celebrated my first birthday with my now husband the weekend before since I had to work on my actual birthday. He went all out during the weekend, took me on a romantic trip, and had a fantastic dinner. On my actual birthday, he sent me this huge bouquet of my favorite flowers to my work right when I started my shift. It was so sweet. I wasn’t expecting anything besides a birthday call. We also had only been dating for about 5 months.
