Not a typical sign, but a generally jaded or seemingly relaxed disposition.
Some people have been through so much shit that they’ve either seen what is currently happening before, or they frankly have stopped caring.
I will give my own example. It is a small one and is more related to a single person and I. A family member of mine is consistently selfish, boastful, prideful and arrogant. She always assumes she is correct, by her own self admission, because she is herself.
However, let anything bad happen to her – anything she can’t control – and she runs screaming and crying to the rest of the family. Sometimes literally doing all three of those verbs.
She is blatantly racist (in her own words “I hate blacks because of the ones I’m around”), but she makes sure to hide it around everyone outside the family. The whole family (barring me) defends her behavior because they are so tired of her constantly cussing and screaming the rest of the family that they just don’t care for it anymore.
That’s another thing; a general apathy. Apathy is a better word than jaded.
I know when she’s in town she’s going to cuss me over the smallest “infractions”. I know that if I let her stay in my home, she will tell me how poorly I’ve cleaned it for her when she gave me a 5 minute warning that she would be visiting.
I think it can depend on how someone handles their experience. But ive seen a few people who are very jaded, angry and hurt. The way they express themselves is rooted in the pain they hold. I’ve seen other people who’ve encompassed hardship and have found a way to internalize it and approach life with peace and this deep understanding.
They don’t trust anyone.
They have a history of cutting or self mutilation.
They have a lot of underlying anger.
Digestive issues.
Credit issues.
They talk incessantly and don’t know how to relax.
There is a quote usually attributed to Robin Williams, though it is not verified he actually ever said this, that I have typically found pretty true in my life in the people I have encountered.
“I think the saddest people always try their hardest to make people happy because they know what it’s like to feel absolutely worthless and they don’t want anyone else to feel like that.”
Sometimes the quiet ones who laugh easily but rarely talk about themselves are the ones who’ve been through a lot. It’s not always visible, but the way they listen more than they speak, or how they stay calm in chaos, says a lot without saying anything
Not being startled by something when everyone else is..
You’d think it would make them jumpy, but in reality, nothing can catch them off guard. Always on hight alert. No surprises.

When people say “it is what it is”.
We will laugh at the most morbid or tragic shit.
When I see someone being genuenly kind but at the same time not naive/easily manipulated. They always tell me some wild shit.
They are alive. That’s it. We’ve all been through shit
