What is an exit physical fitness test?

r/

I see people mention fitness requirements and saying “enter requirements” and “exit requirements” what’s the deal with the exit portion? Do they test you when you leave the department? The academy? This may be an incredibly stupid question so my apologies in advance

Enter the academy and exit the academy.

    For the academy.

Sometimes the exit fitness test is harder to pass than the entrance one. Maybe a few more push ups and sit ups. Or you have to run 30 seconds faster. Typically you have to pass your exit one to graduate.

I’ve never seen a department have anything other than an entrance one lol

The way it works around here is:

A fitness test early on during the application/hiring process, to qualify to continue on. (Most agencies, but not all.)

A fitness test Day 1 of the police academy, which isn’t a hard pass/fail, but more to get an idea of your fitness level, sort you into run groups, etc.

A fitness test about 3/4 of the way through the academy, which is scored and must be passed to graduate.

There are some departments that either don’t do the hiring process test, or fudge the results, so there are occasional cadets who show up at the regional police academy who can’t pass the Day 1 fitness test. Some of those will improve enough by the final academy test that they can still graduate.
