Loosely fits as a hobby but curating my online experience. Treat my online life like it’s that closet in the home office with tax documents, my birth certificate, and family photos/heirlooms and go organize my closet.

Proper email accounts for personal/business/household/throwaway use. Set up to filter what I don’t want and properly notify me of important things across my devices. Social media with hundreds/thousands of blocked pieces of content to keep rage and reaction content out of sight and out of mind. Tailored playlists of shows, movies, and music to suit ANY mood or situation in 2 clicks. A written document of active/important accounts/sites/apps/credentials. Don’t wanna find an old Myspace profile or reddit account I slapped my name on and forgot about or recover my password every time I use x website.

Makes going online a lot more pleasant and life in general just go smoother. Whether it’s a chore or a hobby depends on how much junk you have piled up I suppose.

Social organisations and fraternities. I joined Freemasonry when I was 42 and it’s been a great way to connect with others in my community. I also took up private language classes online to learn French, which I have always wanted to learn.

Actually gaming a lil bit. My family couldn’t afford much of that stuff as a kid but I really like it now. Don’t really play online but I’ll mess up some zombies on COD or beat up the comp in Madden.

Knitting and gardening. Although gardening is harder with my health issues.

    Adult coloring. So fun.
Also gaming with my PlayStation but I stoped for a while because I moved. So idk, I might sell it. It kinda stresses me out and I get stuck playing some games. I’m Not playing it now. And I don’t have much because they can be expensive or else I have to get PlayStation plus or whatever else every month to do certain crap. Not really worth it now because I/my husband are trying to save money to pay off debt and groceries are still expensive and so is our cats rx food.
Adult coloring is cheaper and I already had some nice colored pencils from my husband he had.

Diamond dot art. It’s so repetitive and simple and whole it does make my hand cramp and hurt my carpal tunnel some, its just addictive. I ordered a custom one thats HUGE and I cant wait to start on it. It’ll be my biggest one and the one with the most colors. I think there’s like 62 colors. Im super excited for it!

    Forest reclamation after retirement

    No prior experience at all.
Didn’t even know how to use a basic lawnmower.
Now I have a small, extremely neglected private forest that I’ve been working on for 4 years.
Now I use a tractor, chainsaw and all sorts of gas powered tools.
    So much instant gratification!

Running. I took it up in part as a replacement for time previously occupied by my alcohol “hobby” (i.e., crippling addiction). I’m hopeful this will lead me safely into old age, as opposed to the drinking, which was quickly leading to an early grave.

    Martial arts.
I started my journey when I turned 18, funnily enough.
A very long time later, and now it’s become such an ingrained part of my life I would simply not be me if I didn’t have it.
    Purely happenstance, too.
I had just moved countries, to a city much larger than I was used to and felt overwhelmed so I just decided to take a stroll through some neighbouring areas.
Found a local, long-run and very traditional dojo. Instantly fell in love, rest is history.

At 60M, I got hooked running a quality inflatable Kayak on nearby Clackamas River. My Kayak Buddy around the block has 3 Inflatables. We have a route of 8 miles over 4-5 hours, with a lunch stop. They could not keep us from getting back on that river during COVID=Freedom! The places that a river float is only way to enjoy the beauty all around you. Seems each trip of 20 for the year? Was unique.

Am looking forward to a couple Spring runs with high water flows. Retired

    Great A-D!

  42. mlouise9090 Avatar

Roller skating! I started at the end of May last year, so I’m coming up on a year soon. I took an intro class just for the heck of it, and it was the hobby and activity I didn’t know I needed. Also got me through the hell of job searching after my convocation. Pretty much when I wasn’t sending out resumes or preparing for interviews, I’d be at the rink. Roller skating is great physical activity, but also for my mental health in terms of resilience. I’m always learning something new, some days are going to be brutal and I’m going to fall, but the best thing I can do is get up and try again, sometimes in a different way.

    Gaming.

I played minor amounts of COD for two decades. Every few months I would play a couple games. I was terrible.

I recently switched to different types of games like Returnal, Diablo IV, Doom, and a few others and my wife and I are having so much fun

A few years ago it was Lego. That is still a major love, but the cost has slowed me down.

Recently, I discovered a love for fountain pens- a generally cheaper hobby, and am loving writing fun letters to friends and relatives enhanced with stamping, stickers, wax seals, interesting enclosures, etc. It’s amazing what you can find for really cheap for doing this sort of thing.

I find I am also becoming a lot more political and am going to add using 4×6 computer cardstock and mail merge to write letters to my representatives.
