When we think of addiction, it brings up activities that ruin our lives: drugs, alcohol, gambling, etc…
Lately I have become addicted to cold water swims. They make me feel awesome and are super good health wise as far as I know.
I am also addicted to great salads. I can’t go a day without a salad of some sort.
What are some other positive addictions?
Comments
Sleep.
Exercise.
A healthy relationship
Exercise
Edit: am not a man so I’m not the target here but am a human and stand by what I said lol. Didn’t make note of the sub before answering
Running, coffee, yoga and Hernan Cattaneo. The latter being a 58 y/o legendary Argentinian DJ for those who don’t know.
Stretching!!
I’m addicted to eating grapes. Why are they so good.
Sex
Going to the gym. For me it stopped my desire for bad foods and alcohol plus it improved my mood and physique.
I’m addicted to working out. Mind you like every addiction it can be detrimental if you over do it….which I do.
Water. I feel naked and stressed without my iron jug of ice cold relief.
When I got sober, I played videogames and am now addicted to that. I’m also addicted to writing.
Brain games
Pickup basketball for me, especially with friends. My Sunday feels incomplete if I don’t go
I’m currently addicted to table tennis. At an intermediate level, a great workout while having a ton of fun!
Oxygen… I just can’t live without it….
Blueberries.
Exercise. Once you’re hooked you feel like absolute shit if you go too long without a good workout
Sex! So good for you!
Bathes
Lifting big heavy shit. I didn’t get it for a loooong time. Last year I got serious about it and now I love lifting weights. Seeing the progress over time is definitely addictive.
You still have to be careful though, it’s easy to overdo it and end up hurting yourself. My wife (the saint that she is) helps to keep me grounded. Last year I was adamant I’d do something every day, and have one rest day a week. That’s unsustainable, especially when you’re just starting out.
Listen to your body and operate within your limits and you’ve got a healthy, positive addiction for life.
There is no positive addiction, by the very definition an addiction has to be having a detrimental effect on your life. An activity you enjoy and do a lot isn’t an addiction
I’ve always said that behaviors are contagious. Whatever you do, will feed into more of that type of behavior. For example, if you drink alcohol, you’re also likely to stay out late, and get less sleep, and participate in other destructive behaviors. On the other side, if you choose to get to bed early, you’re far more likely to have a productive day, be generally more pleasant to interact with, have energy to spare (promotes likelihood of physical activity, which also inspires better diet to supplement continuous activity, etc.).
Strategy games, chess and the like, makes you cunning and depending on the game good for socializing
My antipsychotics
A good exercise routine
Lifting
you could argue coffee but i don’t know if it’s ‘addictive’ like the examples you gave b/c i’ve never heard of someone sucking dick for a cup of coffee. there are many studies showing the benefits of coffee, in moderation, of course.
Whenever boredom strikes I lace up my boots and walk in the woods. It gets my creative juices flowing and typically productive following a nice jaunt
exercise. Once you build the habit, you’re gonna start craving it.
I’m addicted to games like sudoku , crossword, wordle and some other puzzle sort of games.
Edamame. I’ll eat the hell out of that.
I don’t think any of that qualifies as an addiction.
Sleep
Workout
Cardio
I’ve been pretty addicted to the gym lately. This can go either way though.
Walking, I walk 5 miles a day.
It makes you feel good.
Too much of anything is bad for you. Everything in moderation.
For me, all the berries. Blue, straw, black, rasp. I’m constantly eating them for the sugar replacement and the low calories.
Maldron salt. Can’t recommend it enough. I buy it by the bucket and use it on everything.
Hiking
Exploring nature.
Fitness. I enjoy putting in hard work on workout, run or spin bike. I come out with a clear clean, concise outlook on my day. It’s that natural endorphins 😎
Kiefer is pretty amazing. Just get plain and toss it in the blender with your fruit of preference.
That said, the dose makes the poison. And anything taken to extremes is likely to cause harm. That is why it seems like addictive things are all harmful. A little sugar when you are engaged in strenuous physical activity is helpful. Eating it day in and day out from your desk at work is gonna give you Diabetes.
Stardew Valley.
Quite a joy to play while causing forward thinking, planning, and organization. Gives me some moments of peace during troubling times.
Sleep. I do it every day, like clockwork
Dancing
Water and lifting weights
Hot sauce
Sex
Peace
Birdwatching is Pokémon Go IRL
I have a pretty serious pistachios addiction
Eating salads with a good amount of dressing
Rock climbing
Coffee, in moderation.
Diet coke and workout.
Boxing 🥊
I love a good salad, but I don’t know just how healthy they are for me though. Salad dressing tends to be extremely high in sugar and calories. I try to take off things like bacon and just leave it all vegetables and just try to stick with a vinaigrette. I think I’m addicted to the sunshine, I love being out in the sunshine but yet over exposure can lead to skin cancer but at 47 I guess I’ve just been lucky enough not to have that come up.
Gym
Exercise. Once it becomes part of your routine, you feel lazy and unfulfilled if you go too long without it.
Cold water baths
Lifting heavy at the gym
Fresh air and sports
Developing mock decks for commander.
Your mom, slthough “positive” is debatable.
Cycling. Not sure what it is, but once you start you just want to do it more and more. Accidentally got a friend hooked on it. He’s a beast now.
Lat pulldowns at planet fitness
Cherries and Blueberries
Meditation
Weight lifting I constantly tend to overtrain which caused me to fall asleep faster than usual or fall asleep when I don’t eat enough calories
Any sport. Sport and physical activity is good for you, the more you do the better.
Exercise
Sauna and ice plunge! Seriously addictive in a good way!
Reading.
The gym.
the defining characteristic of addiction is a compulsive engagement in a behavior despite negative consequences that impact other areas of your life.
Dancing!
Thats easy! Working out.
Pickleball
Pickleball

Exercise, once you’re in the swing of things then there’s nothing better than feeling strong, sturdy and energetic throughout your days. Basically being high on life.

Omg finally someone addicted to salads, its so refreshing and satisfying to eat it
>What are some other positive addictions?
There is a difference between addictive things and addictions. Addictive things can be almost anything: exercise, video games, sex, food, coffee, drugs and so on. Almost none of those are bad in and of themselves. Addictions are not things, they are patterns of behavior, and by definition always negative. Not my words, it’s Merriam-Webster:
>: a compulsive, chronic, physiological or psychological need for a habit-forming substance, behavior, or activity having harmful physical, psychological, or social effects and typically causing well-defined symptoms (such as anxiety, irritability, tremors, or nausea) upon withdrawal or abstinence : the state of being addicted
There is no such thing as a positive addiction. Getting addicted to anything will have a disruptive and negative effect on your life, because it causes an imbalance, favoring your addiction over other aspects of your life like your relationships, diet, health and so on.
But if we want to play devil’s advocate, some things are less bad to get addicted to: coffee dependency will never ruin your life alcohol addiction will, for example, because one will cause far worse damage to your body.
Pussy
Gambling. And crack. Gambling and crack.
Salary
Almonds. Preferably roasted and salted. Gotta keep it to two ounces a day.
Going outside
ITT: OP and commenters show they have no idea what addictive actually means.
Working out.
Morning runs.
Time alone.
Cycling.
It started out to save petrol money but now it’s turned into an exercise routine and to get some fresh air
As someone who’s forced to exercise and stretch regularly. Exercising is extremely addictive, the pump is crazy, only problem is that if I stop exercising everything falls apart. So I take breaks and do body weight for a month
Showers. I’ve started showering twice a day. Me time. Feels sooo refreshing.
Running!
Pool 🎱
Weights. I’m in my 60’s and am totally addicted after starting for rehab from a cycling injury. No more bike and near death experiences. 3 x week lifting, pushing and pulling. Hate missing a day.
Jujitsu. I’ve tried a lot of different exercise but nothing has been as addicting as BJJ. I think it’s all the non physical aspects that makes it. It’s incredibly social (you can’t help it being that close to people), you feel progress in a skill and you develop psychological resilience so you can be calm in uncomfortable situations. You are constantly humbled and see who you are when the chips are down. I’m absolutely in no way a prodigy and am progressing slowly but it’s just so much fun.
Masturbation
Rollerblading. Somehow it works the muscles in my knees, hips and lower abdomen in a way that turns my 50yr old ass into the Energizer Bunny for the next day or so.
I can’t quite explain it.
Sex.
Ketamine
