My cousin got hired. Owner told him he had some big shoes to fill.

A “nice job” from my boss’s boss who was a notorious hardass, over a presentation and demo that I had to give on my boss’s behalf to upper leadership (because he was on vacation on the day it was scheduled)

    “You saved that guy’s life”

(I’m an ER physician). Definitely makes you feel good

Started teaching high school a couple years ago after going back to school. Before this career, I’d mostly had a series of low-paying survival jobs that made me feel like shit.

I’m currently planning on leaving my board to move closer to my family. I told this to the vice principals who gave me my first long-term contracts and they said they would really miss me because they need more teachers like me at their school full-time. It’s an amazing, prestigious school that felt like home over the past year. Receiving a compliment like that is a life-defining moment.

During a performance review my boss stated that he “hadn’t heard anybody say anything bad about me”. No news is good news, I guess.

“You are very confident but you do a great job of not crossing the line to arrogance. You have mastered that balance”

    “You’re a one-man crew”

Went to one of my patients as palliative home care. He was going to die in couple of weeks but I always made sure that I talked to him as a human not a patient. Focussing on things he could still do and shifting the focus away from the illness.

I was talking with his wife with a cup of coffee how she was holding up etc. We talked about that I wasn’t sure if I wanted to be a nurse when I started out years earlier.
When I left she called out my name and said: “You made the right decision”

When the patient passed away I (along with some collegues) went to his funeral. When the casket came out of the house towards the funeral car, his wife walked towards me the moment she saw me. Thanking me for attending.

This moment always stuck with me

“You’re one of my favourite people I’ve ever worked with. I’m gonna really miss you” by some coworker who ended up moving to Australia with her boyfriend (I’m from England). Got a nice goodbye hug from her too on her last day.

We would banter each other all the time. A lot of fun working shifts with her. Always laughing

This place is so screwed if you ever decide to leave

The most difficult thing about you is placing you in a role, because you can do anything.

    “I’m glad I hired you”.

My manager told me that at my probation review for my old job. We later both got made redundant and she recommended me for a job at her new company. When I told her I’d passed my probation review here she replied “They’re lucky to have you”.

Honestly, not one I’ve been told directly

Whenever a new hire (both below and above me) would be introduce themselves, they’d go on about how my boss had already spoke highly of me to them. It’s one thing to be told “good job”, but it’s a completely different level to be bragged about when you aren’t even in the room

I basically had the choice in which team I go for my PhD and my Prof. told me that he and my other Prof., who was my Masterthesis supervisor, fought over who gets me for their team.

And he does mention it whenever he introduces me to new people.

Feels nice to be wanted 🙂
