My mother said this to me all my life growing up and I have found that yes these things are true. If it weren’t for her voice at the back of my head from time to time I wouldn’t have my boyfriend now (I approached him) and I wouldn’t have met quite a few famous people (I opened my mouth and contacted the right folks and by the grace of god got to meet some of my heroes)
This morning I woke up today, in this morning and the morning I woke up this morning I woke up, and remember that every morning that I wake up I woke up that fucking day just to remember that.

Instead of just making friends with anyone and everyone I make friends with people that are actually compatible with me and work my ass off to preserve and build and strengthen those friendships
Now because of it I may not have as many friends as everyone else but I do have a close group of really dedicated friends that are effectively my second family and are truly there for me through thick and thin through good and bad and everything else
I know so many men my age who seemingly have “friends” But those friends are only surface level and only there to enjoy having time with you but don’t care about you or have any real connection to you and they always seem sad and lonely and I didn’t want to end up like that
Kids if you’re still young you don’t need to be friends with everyone, It’s okay to have a positive interaction with someone and just stay acquaintances, But if you are compatible with someone, If this is someone that really clicks with you as a friend, show them that, be affectionate to an appropriate degree, Make efforts to learn about them and their life, be there for them no matter what and you will have basically your second family that will pretty much never leave you

Doesn’t matter what happened, just continue to do the next right thing. I’ve been living by that since my 9th grade teacher said that to me. I’ll never forget the impact she had on my life.
