Next year, I have to decide whether to move permanently to the United States or to Australia. I have enough money to start a textile business and sustain it for several years, and I want to make the right decision: whether to do it in the US or in Australia.
I don’t know much about politics, which is why I want to hear your opinions on which country is better for starting a long-term business. How do you see the US economy in the long run? Is it riskier than betting on Australia?
I think there will be a a sizeable recession in the next five years. Prices will climb while wages stagnate. Lots of layoffs, lots of trade restrictions, low consumer confidence. For once in my life I am somewhat happy to be among the millennial cohort because the Gen Z should be right fucked.
In 10 years Trump will most likely be in charge and will have isolated us from the entire world with the exception of the other dictators. Our economy will be in the dumps and probably right in the middle of the greatest depression.
Trump’s actions will hurt the country’s status as the world tech leader. Suddenly, most of the world will look to China for tech and engineering leadership. We’ll still hold a big share of the market, but we won’t be guiding the boat; we’ll be paddling.
Smolder. The crash and burn will happen pretty fast, then it’ll smolder for years, the smoke drifting past the presidential podium as Trump blames Obama for everything.
Redditors are all doom and gloom. The reality is that the economy will probably be up in 10 years. The stock market is higher than it was before as it consistently goes up and down but always trends up. This is the same shit that was asked in 2016/2017. Redditors have seemingly the same reaction. Since then, the economy has gone up. 🤣
If you’re smart, you’d be buying into the stock market now and eating your rewards 2 years from now. Cause by then, the stock market will be skyrocketing from current numbers.
4 years of crap, followed by 4 (possibly 2 more) years of a Democrat cleaning up a shitty economy always handed over by Republicans. (Look at the history on this trend.)
Heading towards bankruptcy unless people agree to a Deficit tax to get it lowered. Getting the Federal Government smaller helps, but eventually there will have to be a tax to get it lowered.
China, South Korea, and Japan just announced they’ll be coordinating their responses to US tariffs. Let that sink in. Two of our allies are pairing with a regional adversary to coordinate against us. Europe is positioning to no longer need us. We’re basically Britain at the end of WWII. We’re an old decrepit has been that will probably never again rise to greatness, all because 1/3rd of America was bamboozled by an idiot.
bad, very bad. We import so much that just turning it off overnight is basically impossible. There will be lots of places in the US that will turn into ghost towns in the next few years
Next 4 years are going to be a freight train of greed, corruption. They will leave the economy in a great depression. Draining everyone’s savings and walking away.
This is the largest transfer of wealth to the upper 1% than any other time in American history.
Trump wants to “invest” the US gold reserves into BitCoin for faucknsake. So he will buy a few million, then rob the US Treasury and inflate his wealth with OUR gold.
Say goodbye to the unipolar world order we’ve had since the 90s. Russia got what they wanted. Although the second pole is likely to be the EU rather than Russia or China (due to wartime economics and demographics, respectively).
The US could reclaim its position as indisputed center of global commerce, but it will likely take more than a full presidential term post-Trump.
Russia might try to drag the EU into ww3 in an attempt to bring the whole world down to their level, but just like in the last two world wars, it’s a desperate thrashing from a decaying regime. Damage will be done, but it is likely that such a war would simply solidify the EU (or possibly a CANZUK union of ex-commonwealth nations) as a new superpower on the level with, or even beyond, the US (depending on how the US handles itself during ww3).
As a Canadian, I am firmly buckled in and praying that this crazy carnival ride doesn’t go all Final Destination on our asses.
Years of turmoil with vengeful racist idiots in charge. Lots of struggle to wrestle control back from them followed by decades of repairing relationships and slow recovery. All fascist regimes end, so just hope we end this one quickly
I think the USA will continue its steady decline as its eroding integrity in governance, diplomacy and unaddressed late-stage capitalism continues to chip away at our foundation.
We’ll survive. As history has shown, the republicans will destroy the economy, the public will reject the results, the republicans will lose the house and maybe the senate (depends on who’s up for election- longer cycle for senate), democrats will revive the economy…and then the cycle will begin again.
For the next 4ish years, rising unemployment, inflation stabilizing, and volatility in the US stock market. Very modest real GDP growth.
Once Trump is gone, all of the above will improve. The only thing that might get worse once Trump is gone is the national debt. I don’t foresee a situation in which we see annual budget surpluses ever again, let alone decreasing national debt. We know Republicans in the last 20+ years have been fiscally irresponsible, but I don’t foresee Dems meaningfully raising taxes and/or cutting aggregate spending. Not happening.
In 2033, Canada and Mexico begin a joint special military operation to try to restore order and prevent the wave of criminal gangs that wash over their borders from the ruins of what was once the world’s only super power.
The trump dictatorship immigration and foreign policy will greatly discourage tourism. Tourism in ever my state will take a massive hit in US, which will also ripple out and hit service and restaurants industries, hotels, vacations, which will hit local tourism economies the hardest.
Everyone in here acts like we just started to get poor in the last two months. This shit has been happening since the 70s. Get over yourselves. As for the next ten years, same shit different president.
The US is going to lose all trading partners. Nobody can trust them anymore and that will persist post Trump. I expect a depression level era as a result of Trump policies.
Zero chance the USA avoids a synthetically caused recession. Recovery of that recession will start in 4 years starting with cars becoming 25% cheaper over night.
I will be spending significantly less, even when sin have the money to spend. The uncertainty we face now will forever change my spending habits in the future.
Without serious government reforms to reign in POTUS, no nation should trust the US going forward. I live here and have almost zero faith in our government at this point.

I’m open to all kinds of opinions and criticisms!
[deleted]
kind of like the movie thelma and louise, but with donald and elmo in the car at the end
Unstable.
Surpass expectations.
Uneasy. The world market will likely trust the U.S. far less; it will be hard to repair that, and hard to work without allies.
It’ll probably be alright
Very positive- bringing manufacturing back will help a lot
It depends if Trump wins a third term. If Trump wins a third term, the USA will look and feel very different and not in a good way.
It will go up, then down, maybe down some more, then it will correct and go up and then…. You guessed it, back down……..then up!
1% gdp growth or less due to endless orange ape presidents down the road
I’m not sure this country even has ten years
We’re going to have an economy?
Bold of you to assume there will be a US economy in 10 years with the current clown show we’re witnessing.
I think there will be a a sizeable recession in the next five years. Prices will climb while wages stagnate. Lots of layoffs, lots of trade restrictions, low consumer confidence. For once in my life I am somewhat happy to be among the millennial cohort because the Gen Z should be right fucked.
tech boom, new GDP growth + achievements and new products in banking, to open up the housing market
In 10 years Trump will most likely be in charge and will have isolated us from the entire world with the exception of the other dictators. Our economy will be in the dumps and probably right in the middle of the greatest depression.
4 years of failure. 4 years to fix it for the next Democrat, repeat
Trump’s actions will hurt the country’s status as the world tech leader. Suddenly, most of the world will look to China for tech and engineering leadership. We’ll still hold a big share of the market, but we won’t be guiding the boat; we’ll be paddling.
Recession for sure.
Smolder. The crash and burn will happen pretty fast, then it’ll smolder for years, the smoke drifting past the presidential podium as Trump blames Obama for everything.
Equal to the GDP of Côte d’Ivoire.
Ten years…so umm his goal is to tank the USA economy.
Bad
if we actually make a move for Greenland then NATO is coming for more than our economy…
Gun fights over soup cans snd boxed rice I assume.

Pessimism: US economy heads into the dumper and Trump conjures up a war to stimulate the economy. Worked (for a while) for Hitler.
The Trump Depression
It’ll be fine. Our 401ks will be worth much more than they are today.
Can we focus on getting out of this year intact first?
Bad.
Great Depression.
4 years of crap, followed by 4 (possibly 2 more) years of a Democrat cleaning up a shitty economy always handed over by Republicans. (Look at the history on this trend.)
Whatever the 10 year note says
Heading towards bankruptcy unless people agree to a Deficit tax to get it lowered. Getting the Federal Government smaller helps, but eventually there will have to be a tax to get it lowered.
Eh. It doesn’t matter they rule the world. Good economy or bad, they’re still the dominant empire for centuries to come.
Man, who fucking knows…
If I had a child in my care, my first priority would be teaching them to make fire.
WW3 so bad
Hindenburgesque.
insert toilet flushing sound
sad
Looking for a shift from paper currency to bartering pieces of string

The USD will go way down – will take a lot of time to recover.
Decline. But I’m not an economist so my opinion doesn’t really count for much.
If this tariff bullshit becomes a common thing for the next decade, we’re in for a recession since we don’t really make anything anymore.
Everything has been moved overseas for better profits
mass starvation, homelessness, and complete collapse of the US.
Probably good in terms of making money/ probably bad in terms of what you can buy
What economy?

It’ll have some peaks and valleys, but overall, it’ll grow. The primary goal of any economy is to grow.
Years of turmoil with vengeful racist idiots in charge. Lots of struggle to wrestle control back from them followed by decades of repairing relationships and slow recovery. All fascist regimes end, so just hope we end this one quickly
Lemme see… by that time we’ll be well into Trump’s fourth term? Prediction: not awesome.
Lots of foreclosures on the horizon.
Great as always
Rich get richer. Poor get poorer. It’s what poor people keep voting for
It will be shit until 2029 when once again Democrats have to clean up the fucking mess made by Republicans.
I think the USA will continue its steady decline as its eroding integrity in governance, diplomacy and unaddressed late-stage capitalism continues to chip away at our foundation.
US empire on the way to oblivion.

Depression. Something between Great Recession and Great Depression
I keep getting poorer while smug bootlickers keep telling me it’s good for my hard-earned money to lose value
Decade long Great Depression.
It will be like Russia in the 80’s
For the next 4ish years, rising unemployment, inflation stabilizing, and volatility in the US stock market. Very modest real GDP growth.

I predict US’s gdp will actually shrink
Another deep Republican recession followed by yet another Dem recovery. Same pattern for the last 100 years.
Continue to be a shit show until the con artists currently in power start to face consequences.
Trump is killing the goose that lays the golden eggs. That goose is freedom + diversity + meritocracy.
Everyone in here acts like we just started to get poor in the last two months. This shit has been happening since the 70s. Get over yourselves. As for the next ten years, same shit different president.
Not good. It’s already been hard for the past ten years and that was without the constant daily flipfloping tariffs and trade wars on our allies.
Collapse, or on the way to it.
Recession then depression. Tyrrumpf is throwing a big wrench in the fan..
we realize what arrogant dick heads weve been for the past 400 years we decided we had the biggest dicks on earth for some reason or another.
Gotta make it through the next 10 months first. I’m not holding my breath.
The US is going to lose all trading partners. Nobody can trust them anymore and that will persist post Trump. I expect a depression level era as a result of Trump policies.
Brief recession, slow recovery, and irrelevant on the world stage for ages.
💩 🍴
Dust and fire. Hot garbage. Decline.
The trade agreements will never return to pre tarrif tactics. The American boycot on goods will prevail along with the travel boycot.
These actions over 3 months will have a long term and be unrecoverable.
It’ll be like taking back a crazy ex that has “changed.”
To answer the question directly, devastating.

Recession. Possibly depression if they kill the Fed like they seem to be aiming to do. 10 years sounds about right.
A yoyo on an elevator.
Without serious government reforms to reign in POTUS, no nation should trust the US going forward. I live here and have almost zero faith in our government at this point.
A 4-5 year house fire and then 5-6 years of repairs.
