Due to a half opened garage door and my dads powerhosing waders being hung uo to dry, i thought hed hung himself. I screamed out and then heard him running towards me asking “what’s wrong?!?!?”
That hug is my favourite memory.
When I was around 3-4 yo, he took me to the zoo and I remember being carried on his shoulders. I don’t remember seeing the actual animals, but there was this tunnel we walked through that had green painted crocodiles on its walls. I remember being really happy being carried by dad and looking at the paintings hahaa.
Ahh that’s actually one of the few rare good memorable memories I have with him 😭
I’m not very close with my dad and I always felt like I was a disappointment to him growing up, so the times that we did spend together I remember very fondly.
When I was about 5ish, he used to take me to my ballet class every Saturday. He’d watch sitting in the waiting area with the other parents on the tv monitor, and when class was over I’d come running out to him and then he’d take me to the same local restaurant. I’d always get a grilled cheese, which they didn’t have on the menu but the chefs were kind enough to make for me every time.
When I was 13, he took me to a Stanley Cup finals game when the rest of my family was on vacation. Our family was huge Blackhawks fans and I grew up playing hockey. The Blackhawks ended up winning the Stanley Cup at that game. It was super rainy so the cup was delayed getting into the building, and when we got home our basement was flooded.
A few days ago he flew across the country to meet my fiancé and our son. I showed him our apartment and we went out to lunch together and then we went on a walk. I got a cute picture of him holding my baby.
the smell of coffee. it’s the most amazing, comforting smell in the world because i associate it with my dad. he drinks coffee every single morning, never fails. he’d wake me up everyday for school, help me get dressed and make his cup. then send me off with a hug and kiss that smelled like fresh coffee.
One of my favourite memories is from when I took a bus from my hometown to go visit my aunt about 8 hours away. It was my first time going solo – I was about 10.
My dad took me to the bust station and got me settled on the bus and then said he would wait until the bus left.
He stood outside the bus next to my window and reassured me it would be ok. I was really nervous. From somewhere he pulled out a piece of paper and a pen and wrote something down and then held it up to the window.
It said ‘I love you’
I’ve never ever forgotten that. I’m 40 now and he’s about to turn 77 and he is one of my favourite people in the entire world.
I have one nice memory of my biological dad. I woke up super early and went to the kitchen where he was sitting warming himself by the wood stove, I sat on his lap and watched the embers until the others woke up.
I have countless memories of my stepdad making us laugh, teaching me stuff, being completely in love with my mum, and way too adorable around animals.

My dad used to drive us to school very early in the morning. We would talk, listen to music, but our favorite was the “talk show” he presented where he “interviewed” our favorite guest, an old lady 100% based on his friend’s mom. She had this very particular voice and way it talking and he sounded exactly like her. The answers were super funny.
