I met a really nice girl with a unique sounding accent.
She says “I went to Peppahhhhdine” instead of “I went to Pepperdine.”
“I’m hayyyyling” instead of “I’m healing” and “kaychen” instead of “kitchen.”
“I sing alterrrr” instead of “I sing alto.”
“Bwocks” instead of “blocks.”
“Do you have guehhm?” instead of “do you have gum?”
“And thien” instead of “and then”
“Shou-ould” (2 syllables) instead of “should”
She is caucasian and lives in a diverse part of the United States (Los Angeles County). But where does this kind of accent originate? It is not common in LA at all.
I know there is fine line between accents and speech impediments, but she claims not to have a speech impediment.

Where did she grow up?
Why didn’t you just ask her?
