Nothing is universally loved, but reading about the Meiji Restoration Period and having a base understanding of Japanese history killed the Last Samurai for me.
The Notebook. I mean, what’s not to love about a billionaire’s daughter falling for a poor dude and then… oh wait, 20 minutes of unrelenting sappiness later, I’m out. Next.
(Ignoring that nothing in existence, theory, or imagination is “universally loved”) A Christmas Story. A major contributer to my hate-on for the Christmas season and holiday (which now occupies a solid quarter of the fucking year).
Saying ‘I can’t stand it’ is not entirely accurate, but I don’t get the massive hard on Reddit has for “The Princess Bride”. I don’t hate it, or even dislike it, just don’t get the adoration at all.
Marvel movies. The iron man ones where cool but after that, they are so predictable and boring, its pretty sad. What probably annoys me the most about them is the shitty forced “humour”. Like its a tense moment and then Thor drops his hammer and is like “ups” and then it continues… like that is so lame, maybe if it was once it would be ok but every single movie multiple times is just cringe imo.
I think The Princess Bride is okay, but I totally don’t get why people love it so much. It’s sweet, it has some funny moments…. but it baffles me that so many people think it’s so fabulous.
Star Wars. From the day it was released to the present it has just never inspired me. All my school friends went to see it the cinema and raved about it. They bought the LP soundtrack music. I was merely bemused. I did eventually see it on TV and found it childish and simplistic. Nope. Just don’t get it. Sorry.
That said – I’m a big sci-fi person in general. I grew up on Doctor Who and I love Star Trek. But Star Wars – nah.
Lady Bird. So unbelievably obnoxious. Though, to be fair,r this might be more personal since I’ve known people who act exactly like the main character in real life and are coincidentally from around the same area the movie takes place in
Tokyo Drift. Everything about this movie is great. AND ruined by a Pos of a main character everyone seems to Adore. He constantly gets himself, the people that trust him and his own god damn family in immense trouble just because hes chasing the kitty of a random girl that looked his way twice and thats the plot of the movie. Cmon, whats cool about that guy???
My Best Friend’s Wedding – she was an awful person the entire movie, and in the end, they just laughed it off and called it sweet “you’ll always be my best friend” stuff.
Could’ve been great had they let it stand on its own, but no, they had to fellate the original for 70% of the film. So much so it was laughably distracting.
Well made and acted, action scenes were mostly had buy-in. Writing was sus, and the plot/script was just so atrociously “safe”. there is a fine line between paying homage and aping, but this was so egregious I was literally laughing out loud in the theater as to how juvenile.
Anything based on comic books. I guess I just don’t understand the appeal. I grew up loving those type movies but then…I grew up.
I can make one exception tho: Joker. That movie was beautifully shot and well acted. No super powers or magical cringe shit distracting the viewer, just a well executed story.
The Usual Suspects for me. I’ve watched it three times over the years, and I enjoy parts of it, including the ending. Overall, though, it’s a pretty underwhelming movie for me that I always feel disappointed by.
I’m notoriously NOT a movie watcher. My friend begged me to watch The Fifth Element. So I did. Dumbest movie I’ve ever seen.
It’s a cab driver trying to get laid, and ends up marrying an Alien? You don’t know what the reproductive organs are like, you don’t know her customs, she doesn’t even speak! Dumb dumb dumb
Idk if it was really ‘universally loved’ but I found the Barbie movie meh at best. Plus I thought the way it ended sort of undermined the entire premise and cheapened it massively. People like to act like it’s this profound piece of feminist cinema and really, it just isn’t.
Also, The Matrix ( or one in them at least, not sure if I saw the original) Just got completely bored by the massive amount of repetitive martial art visual effects/deaths. Completely bored me to death, and I like Keanu. I whiffed on that one.
I was honestly massively underwhelmed by The Lord of The Rings. I appreciate that the books themselves are incredibly important for the establishment of the high fantasy genre, and I appreciate that the physical special effects in LOTR have aged incredibly and that aspect of the filmmaking is impressive, but I found the movies as a whole nowhere near as good as I thought they’d be.
I hadn’t watched them until I was about 22, and with how people talked about it I was expecting something really impressive, and it was just sort of ok? I love a fantasy movie normally, but I just found the plot overall not super engaging and a couple of the actors just weren’t great? Idk. It wasn’t bad by any means but from how people talked about it I thought it was going to be amazing and it ended up just being sort of ok.
It’s Christian Bale’s Batman voice. Not a movie but a style of acting.
Ever since then there are certain actor’s playing Batman, & other masculine roles that use CB’s Batman voice & it’s just irritating. Ben Affleck’s Batman just seemed like he was playing Christian Bale playing Batman.

The Notebook. I mean, what’s not to love about a billionaire’s daughter falling for a poor dude and then… oh wait, 20 minutes of unrelenting sappiness later, I’m out. Next.
Forrest Gump. Awful movie
The big Lebowski. Just didn’t vibe with me but it’s been years since I’ve seen it
Blade Runner 2049. It absolutely took a shit on the original and now a bunch of weab incels treat it like the greatest sci-fi film ever.
Twilight……….. Do you all know what grind my gears the most about that movie? Vampires that sparkles.
Anything with Jack Black in it.
Once upon a time in hollywood
Forest Gump
Anything Chris Nolan.
His movies are decent to good.
But nowhere near the stratospheres his fans put them
He’s a thinking man’s Michael Bay, not the 2nd coming of Kubrick

Most of Quentin Tarantinos movies tbh
Titanic and all kind of famous dancing movies

DIRTY DANCING and Fast & Furious Parts 1-417
Not that I can’t stand it, but silence of the lambs.
Tried twice, fell asleep both times and I can’t remember ever falling asleep during other movies…
Elf – finally watched it last Christmas just to see what the fuss is about. Not going to watch again. I was right before. I hated it.
Space: Odyssey
Walked out during the intermission. Probably something exciting happens during the second part? Didn’t stay to find out.
Princess bride.
I think The Princess Bride is okay, but I totally don’t get why people love it so much. It’s sweet, it has some funny moments…. but it baffles me that so many people think it’s so fabulous.
Insert any popular musical.
All of the star wars movies for me. They never know whether they want to be serious and epic or goofy and funny.

A Christmas story. Hate it.
Marvel movies in general. A few are pretty good but most of them are boring.

LOTR series
My Best Friend’s Wedding – she was an awful person the entire movie, and in the end, they just laughed it off and called it sweet “you’ll always be my best friend” stuff.
Forrest Gump
Dirty Dancing
All star wars , return of the jedi , all that NONSENSE.
Castaway
The Exorcist was boring for me, and the script far too predictably good vs evil.
Top Gun: Maverick
Could’ve been great had they let it stand on its own, but no, they had to fellate the original for 70% of the film. So much so it was laughably distracting.

Suicide squad
The Batman (2021) I can appreciate detective Batman & I think Pattinson did a great job but, it wasn’t all that great to me. A cool 7/10 for me.
The Harry Potter movies. I was a few years too old for the books and the whole thing had no appeal to me.
Pulp fiction and the assumption that everybody should like it
Wicked
Interstellar. … sorry.
The Usual Suspects for me. I’ve watched it three times over the years, and I enjoy parts of it, including the ending. Overall, though, it’s a pretty underwhelming movie for me that I always feel disappointed by.
Usual Suspects.
Some people are easily impressed. It’s not clever, it’s a movie built up to support a weak “zinger” of a gotcha. F-
I’m notoriously NOT a movie watcher. My friend begged me to watch The Fifth Element. So I did. Dumbest movie I’ve ever seen.

Lord of the rings
Dirty dancing and the breakfast clubs
Ghost, When Harry met Sally, Dirty Dancing
Napoleon Dynamite
I tried once after it was released on dvd to watch it, stopped 15 minutes in.
Also The Big Lebowski. It was an ok movie, but not the cult classic people make it out to be.
Titanic
Event Horizon. I don’t know if universally loved is a good description but I have never met anyone who hated it as much as I do.
I walked out of No Country For Old Men
Not sure about universally loved, but There’s something about Mary. Not funny at all
Rocky. Tried several times to watch it but it’s just so awfully bad.
Titanic
Shawshank Redemption
I was severely disappointed by Barbie, and I feel like it was overhyped.
Idk if it was really ‘universally loved’ but I found the Barbie movie meh at best. Plus I thought the way it ended sort of undermined the entire premise and cheapened it massively. People like to act like it’s this profound piece of feminist cinema and really, it just isn’t.
Interstellar, or: I Jumped Into A Black Hole for Humanity and All I Got Was Behind A Shitty Bookcase.
Forrest Gump
Gone With the Wind
It’s way too long, boring, and insufferable.
I just can’t sympathize with the plights of a bitchy southern slave owning woman, especially when the movie is like 4 hours long
Sideways. Sexist, not funny, boring & dumb
Dances with Wolves..thank god for the fast forward button.
Any freakin’ musical..!!!
Beetlejuice, so uncanny.
Mama Mia. Horrible female role model.
It’s a Wonderful Life. Neither my partner nor I had ever seen it so we finally tried a few years ago. We lasted about twenty minutes.
Pretty Woman. Just ick all around.
Also, The Matrix ( or one in them at least, not sure if I saw the original) Just got completely bored by the massive amount of repetitive martial art visual effects/deaths. Completely bored me to death, and I like Keanu. I whiffed on that one.

Ugh… top gun
I only watched it recently because my mate was upset I hadn’t seen it. Worst pile of shit ever, and not just because Tom Cruise’s face is punchable.
Just…dull…bad…boring… blargh.
Give it 2 out of 10. 1 point because a scene had a parrot, and 1 point because of Danger Zone.
Beetlejuice. What the fuck even was that shit
The Shawshank Redemption.
I never understood what the hype was about.
Harry Potter. I find it super lame. I honestly don’t like anything about it, I do like many of the actors other work however.
The Big Lebowski. So many people love this movie and I really did not like it. At all.
