For me it was getting full on board with tech in the mid 90’s when everyone who did was like “Bro, I just got a Pentium with a 1 gig HD!!!” lol. In my mid 50’s now and still keep up a lot. It’s fucking wild how much of our lives depend on gadget and internet literacy now a.k.a IoT. Renew a license? You can do it online. New thermostat? There’s an app for it. Banking, vacations, healthcare, insurance, and on and on.
I thank myself for keeping up, and appreciate it even more now that I’ve become my 90+ mom’s power of attorney. It’s a LOT of work, life is death by 1000 forms

Doing pushups when I wake up every day has kept me feeling good
Cleaning as I cook
Not making impulse purchases
Cooking good tasting meals that are healthy. I use to eat super unhealthy food because unfortunately most precooked and pre-made stuff is unhealthy. Also use to eat alot of fast food which made me physically feel sick. I think the only exception is Chipotle. Other than being high in calories the ingredients themselves are fairly healthy especially if you choose good ones.
Mowing the grass weekly.
Since having a kido (2.5 y/o now) I finally addressed my alcoholism, have been sober for almost 900 days now. But that seems a like cheating on this post…but I say that to say;
I now get up ar 515 or so every morning just so I can flip on the local news and drink two cups of coffee. House is dead quiet, usually just me and the dog awake. But I can’t tell you how great it’s been for my mental health. Feeling like I got a little head start on the day with some me time has been amazing.
Cooking your own food 95% of time saves a lot of $ in long run and never used food delivery services.
YouTube…fucking YouTube for everything I need to fix or improve a technique. I feel so much better being able to repair/ fix/ improve things around the house, toys or vehicles.
Waking up early, even on days off. Gives me more time during the day to get stuff done, and like someone else mentioned, I can watch the local news and drink my coffee in peace.
Investing, started as a hobby turned into a passion
Sharing household responsibilities with your wife.
Learning to cook, grew up loving the show good eats and learned how to cook from it. Being able to make whatever I’m craving saves a lot of money and can be a lot healthier as well.
Taking my own toilet paper when going away.
Kind of joking but not really. You go on the fancy holiday, and the toilet paper is a combination of porous sandpaper, kitten rage and bad dreams. Taking your own, it’s a game changer. No more worries about playing Buckaroo with the papery stability every time you wipe.
100 pushups every other day. Doesn’t even have to be all at once, but you should strive for as fast as possible and try to push your limits once you get “comfortable”. Before you know it (but still give it like a year) you’ll be able to bounce your pecs. Not to mention that the exercise routine will likely lead to you adopting other healthy lifestyle choices.

Working for the fed. It’s boring and often stupid but damn did I appreciate the job security when half my friends got laid off during Covid.
I went to an engineering school. Most of the guys who got the cool jobs at Tesla, spacex, google, etc got laid off within 2 years.
