Sophie. She reshaped the world of electronic music in a very short time and still had so much to show, then she passed very suddenly in a shocking accident.
It also happened during the pandemic, it felt like the old world died with her.
Not that I was a big Ozzy fan but my family was. My uncle passed away when I was 13 and he was a massive Ozzy fan. I remember going to the funeral and Ozzy blasted during the entire ceremony. He played a big role in my life when I was growing up. He taught me how to ride a bike, how to change a tire, about the birds and the bees (essentially my father wasn’t in the picture) . His death hit hard, It was also crazy. I’m 35. Also I chose my premier League team based on Ozzy (Aston Villa)
But when I heard Ozzy passed away, there were tons of memories and weird feelings when he passed..
Honestly? Chris Squire from Yes. I grew up listening to those guys and Yes was the band who inspired me to make music–and who challenged me to ever be that good. He was truly one of my heroes.
I was on a job site and my helper told me “Ozzy died!” He was on his phone while in the Porta Potty.
I basically said “What?!’
Not because I didn’t hear him…
Yah went through Kurt, and Cornell and Scott Weiland and Chester. As well as others such as Lane Staley or even Andrew Wood. TBQHWY, all those deaths made sense since it was either ego or drugs or whatever tormented those people. Loved their art but they were all sort of full of themselves or couldn’t get a grip.
Ozzy was just Ozzy. I don’t think he ever tried to be much more than a slightly overweight bloke who loved booze, drugs and metal. A genuinely flawed human being who pulled it off anyway. Somehow ended up being the world’s top goof ball dad and family man for a while. Plus his music was great by my tastes. Bless him for living to such a ripe old age, but it still hurt anyway. Like when you just don’t want your grandpop to ever leave you but you know he will one day.
chester bennington, met his first wife while vacationing in Cabo, a lovely lady and she told me chester’s new wife is super guilty, there no way he was depressed, don’t know the whole story but i felt really sad for her and their son (a lovely guy too)
Ozzy, I saw it coming and knew he was in poor health, but I was still shocked especially that he had his final show two weeks prior.
I’m not one to become attached to public figures, but during the pandemic I read his autobiography and became fascinated by his life. He had such a life. I remember following him, watching him announcing a return to stage only to cancel, his surprise appearance at the Commonwealth Games, and finally his final show in Birmingham.
Another reason I was so upset is how public Ozzy’s relationship with his family was. You get a sense how beloved he was by his wife, children and grandchildren. His daughter just got engaged two weeks before his death. Frankly his family is what I’m most sad about. As for Ozzy, at least his pain from years of poor health is over and he’s possibly with Randy Rhoads again.

I wouldn’t say any celeb/musician death actually hits me as I dont know them, but losing Chester suck as it was the death of my favorite band.
