My MIL is amazing, a retired nurse and is having a hysterectomy to remove a large benign tumor. We live several states away and she does not want company, and we were thinking maybe a care package. What kinds of things might be useful? She’s 69, kind and sassy.

I would get her some really comfy pjs, extravagant slippers, a reading light, some books and a month’s subscription to a home food service I can’t remember the name The one where you just scan the code and it automatically cooks the meal for you? She’s going to be sore, so cooking is no fun, but things that make you feel pampered always help. If you really want to lift her spirits, send her a really good perfume so that she feels sassy and pretty.
I celebrated by getting myself a cute tunic top and white capri pants!
Really fucking comfortable blanket, couch or bed style.
A dear friend gave me a super nice soft night gown in extra large after I had my hysterectomy. I was surprised at the size since I am a medium.
She was former registered nurse RN (USA) and she knew I would most likely have post surgery weight gain.
And that gown was perfect for me.
My beloved cousin who had just finished her chemo and surgery sent me a plush blanket with the word heal, love, joy and laughter on it.
Food deliveries.
May your mom in law heal well!

I’d go with comfortable clothing, blanket, slippers maybe a snack or two. My aunt had one and for her comfort was a big thing. Also if she likes to read or do crosswords or sudoku those would be good too
When my friend had a hysterectomy I gave her a big soft blanket, (that matched her decor), and a little basket with peppermint tea, (for nausea), lemon balm tea, ( for anxiety), valerian tea, (for sleep), and fennel tea (for recovery), with a jar of super fancy honey. Maybe some slippers and a book or two that you love.
My friend said the blanket was her biggest sensory comfort.
Can you hire someone to clean her house and take out her trash?
I’ve had a few surgeries. Things I appreciated having are different types of grabbers. Those things that can pick up stuff from the floor, etc. I also got a folding cane. Amazon has inexpensive ones that come in snazzy colors. If someone near her can help her set up for shopping for groceries and med supplies online would be super. I really appreciated Target and Walmart home delivery.
A high quality soft blanket, really great slippers (Glerups are my pick), some healthy snacks, a bamboo or modal nightgown (Soma or Amazon), one of those warmers filled with rice that you heat in the microwave that you use like a hot water bottle, gift cards for Uber Eats/Door Dash, housekeeping services, in home massage service.
I guess it would depend on if she was able to have robotic or had to go “traditional” as the “traditional” is a lot tougher recovery. Comfy PJs (especially with a comfortable waistband), or even a cute lounge-dress thing. Or a really cute t-shirt and shorts/lounge pants (depends if she likes pants or shorts…) for either. Food or snacks would be good. She like books? A gift card for eBooks and a Reader (or a gift card for actual books, or the actual books if you know them…) as you need to rest for a bit regardless of the type. Sarah’s Scribbles used to have a hilarious plushy uterus, but it’s generally always out of stock 😛 Oh, Awkward Yeti still has theirs (they’ve got some adorable organ plushies 😜). Robotic assist is a total game changer, and most of my recovery was just resting and trying to remember to take it easy while my body healed. The “traditional” method takes you out of commission due to more major restrictions and more pain for a bit…
